OK shoot it down or praise it, but I got to thinking about it today.
How possible would it be to have a live chat option added to the board?
I don't know anything about setting that up, but thought it might be kinda of neat.
Also thought it would be neat to have voice chat included
All registered of course...ok I'm getting carried away...maybe
Is it possible? |

Something to consider, to be sure!
After the holidays, of course.
I also intend to create a links page for contributors.
One damned thing at a time.
Ho ho ho!

There is another possibility... using some of the IM stuff, we could also do VOIP Conferencing. Easy to set up and anyone with say - Yahoo or AIM or... could interface and this does not tx the VO-BB in the least... set up a conference time or two every couple of weeks and "there you go"... Additionally, we could with use of IM be talking to eachother just by keying-in another's IM address... no charge, no taxing of anyone system and easy to set-up.

As an addendum perhaps we could set up a private chat room somewhere. I was kind of thinking of an all access, all the time type of thing. Keep in mind it would have to be a registered, private type of thing to keep away bots, and the rest of the internet B.S.
Doesn't have to be in the board here...just something we all have access to. |

A simple IM Voice Chat Room would be easy to work with... and would available all the time, with text messaging also available for those who do not have Broadband or who would prefer to keep it simple... there could be a White Board for and an IM area OR a Yahoo Chat room could be set-up without too much hassle...
Just thought... Bud - you challanged yourself... it's your project... I'm in when your up and running - - anyone else?

What a great idea! I can only imagine how great adding audio would be to this already colorful bunch.
Happy Hour at the VO-BB pub!
How would you set this up to accomodate all the time zones we live in?
I believe there is chat room type forum that is set up for both webcam or avatar shots while you are using the service. Wish I could remember the name of it... |

I understand what Bud wants-- a dedicated VO-BB chat room to pop into.
Let me see what's available with GoDaddy.
Maybe the Acme Anvil of Time will land on my head. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I put in my vote for a chat. We can use, as Frank said, an IM chat room or an IRC chat room that is INVITE only or a web-based chat like Bud was talking about to start with. Personally, I like the IRC based chat...but any of them will do.
On a related note...the server that I run (http://oppalumni.net) has a webchat feature on it. It's real-time, like IRC, and uses a Java applet. If you want to see it in action, visit the site and click on ALUMNI CHAT. The chat window is seperate from the main browser window. It works very well.
For those, like me, who use open source programs, there is GAIM. This is a IM client that does it all...Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Jabber, IRC, ICQ and probably some I'm forgetting. Best of all, it's free and available at: http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

I'd actually prefer for you guys to clear this with me first, if you please.
I certainly don't mind the help-- I just want to know what it is before it's out there.
Thanks.
Now I'm busy.
I've got to get supper on the table.

Our apologies DB you are absolutely right...guess we jumped the gun looking for an alternate solution.
We know it will take time for you to get things rolling this being the season and all. We just wanted to take some of the burden off of you.
So that being said...May we explore alternate soutions for live chat until the time for you to incorporate it here comes about? |

As excited about this as I am I probably won't be able to take any steps towards progress until next week...never thought business would be this good around the holidays.
DB I'll keep you posted |

Sounds like a great idea, whichever way you put it together. Allen, I've been using Gaim for about a month or so & also would recommend it. _________________ Mary |
