An important lesson learned:

Whilst washing the car, take care that your celphone does not fall into the bucket of water.

<sigh>

Ugh. I feel your pain.

We actually started to carry the stupid insurance on our cell phones b/c my husband was "dropping" them into the canal a couple times a year.

My phone's screen doesn't currently work thanks to a 10 second dose of baby slobber.

My brother is known for dropping his in the "indoor pool." He's nearly flushed a phone 6 or 7 times now. He gets the insurance. Why he can't leave his phone outside the pottie, I have no idea.

I had a Blackberry that I dropped in my pool twice and in the toilet a couple of times as well. Each time, I just removed the battery, set it out to dry for 2 or so days and then put the battery back in. That was the most durable sucker I've ever had. I finally turned it in for a newer model but I have a feeling this one won't survive the bottom of the pool test.

Jeff,

I feel your pain. My daughter dropped hers in a glass of iced tea several months ago. Since I have her on our family plan, I was very glad I had the insurance on her phone.

It's a little worse than just dropping it. I washed the cars and as we were cleaning up, I dumped out the yucky water. Sitting there at the bottom of the bucket was my phone. Apparently it had been there for close to an hour.

I marinated the damn thing.

Luckily it was a 3 year phone and our contract was way up. I had planned to get a new contract and phone one of these days. Guess I escalated the process.

Emma dropped hers in a blueberry fruit smoothie on the drive to work one morning. It didn't have a chance.

over an hour in the water - sheesh - this may not help --- BUT i have had great success putting a wet cell phone in a bowl of uncooked rice --- draws the moisture right out.

you can also take the phone apart and clean the components with rubbing alcohol.

again - an hour submerged MAY bee too much ...

I just got a Blackberry 8830 world model. I managed to drop it onto a concret floor for about 3 ft. Panic attack. Picked it up and I still can't find any damage. It took a smaking and keep on ticking.

I was impressed for sure.

Ha!! Bob, you just reminded me... my hubby lost one to iced tea as well. Slipped right off the dashboard of the car into his tea.

And, our water is saltwater, so there's no recovering them once they're doused. Smile
