I am appalled and deeply disappointed, after turning in what has been described as a groundbreaking piece of ADR in 'Atonement' I was entirely overlooked when it came to last night.
According to one well respected film critic, I quite literally shone as the homesick scared drunk on top of the rigging at Dunkirk, the same critic described my performance as moving and filled with pathos and despair. Of course, I was just as brilliant in other parts of the same extended take, but Joe was so delighted with the overall quality of my work that he asked for me to voice this pivotal everyman character.
I know its not about the money or the fame, its about the recognition and respect of my peers. I am hurt that the Academy, so wise in other choices saw fit to ignore the obvious one.

Serve you right for not taking the Pat Fraley "Homesick scared drunk on top of the rigging at Dunkirk" ADR class at MKH416 Post in downish kinda uptown mid west central LA.
Woot awesome dood! (just in case I misunderstood your post)
By the way THE read for Voice talent this Spring is "Pause like a pro'" by Brodie Castle. 395 pages of some of the best pausing exercises EVER. I now have a selection of the 42 basics on my demo.
By the way way. Last year The Queen and Volver films in which I was in and for which I got NOTHING from Oscar the Grouch! Except money, of course. What complete moron let a Sesame Street character award awards any way DUH! |

Bless you sir, I tried to contact Brodie before the session, but she was on a signing tour of bookshops. I only had a very short time after the call from the coast (coast of northern France). I am going to make sure I sign up for as many classes as I can, I think that 'Pause for Success' and 'Pause for Applause' may be the ones for me. Hopefully Oscars 09 will be my year.
re The Queen and Volver last year and Atonement this year, do you think its us???
I have very high hope for Doomsday and 10,000 BC, my death by Mammoc was noted by Roland Emmerich, and the ADR director was impressed by my scream after vicious stomach wound caused by bamboo spear. Specific I know, but hell, its my category. _________________ www.davidmonteath.com

In the index, should author/last post read Philip Banks or David Monteath do not open. Anything writ by these twa loons is the work o' the divul.
Tak a telling quiney.
By the way way way. David Monteath will never win a n Oscar because he doesn't have a silly name. Winners need to be called Zwig Bloqvinst or Tula Wham, things like that. |

I had forgotten you were pre-ignoring......could we progress to ignoring by the easy week by week installment plan guaranteed to make any mother appreciate the thought you have put into her Mothers Day present? Or if not, through the 7 signs of aging and the judicious use of triple AHA fruit acids and action liposomes could we agree to ignore on a temporarily suspended basis?
Deebs, its over to you on the red carpet.......what are the great and good ignoring this season? _________________ www.davidmonteath.com

David and Philip:
If I may...
For my money, Brodie's little-known work "The Pause that Refreshes" is also quite eye-opening. I suggest you check it out. Also, her collection of medical-related exercises called "The Heart Pauses" is also useful. Those of you with pets doing voice-over projects will definitely want to get the seminal work published by the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) called "Pausing for Paws." Chapter 1, called "Pause for Concern" is especially enlightening.
Pausing for breath.

Wise words indeed, Brodie is an inspiration to all who know her.....we have only ever spoken by email, I have never been fortunate enough to sit at her feet. I am waiting for her latest work'........and now breathe out' which I know will teach me as much as she knows about the art of waiting for success.
When my wife was having our babies we regularly consulted 'Pregnant Pause' which was a fabulous mine of useful information, I view Brodie as not just a voice coach, but really a lifestyle guru.

Not a thing my dear, not a thing!
I bow humbly as did Daniel Day Lewis before Helen Mirrin last evening!

Liz,
Why thank you... I think.
I live in a household where puns are encouraged... and wordplay is a national pastime.

p.s. Bravery is putting up a demo here, which I haven't done yet. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

You'd love the pun-off in Austin, then. It's an annual event and I've watched it on cable TV until I couldn't take any more of it. _________________ Greg Littlefield

I've been privileged to see and hear the Austin Lounge Lizards... and they do a mean pun or two! _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |
