That's why I'm a TS fan. He speaks his mind.
I've worked with a few of the drivers around here, never Tony though. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Thanks Anthony.
You just made me remember all of that ash and soot we went through in San Diego last year. It wouldn't surprise me if some of it is also clogging my computer.
Better get out the Dyson. _________________ "Bailey"

This is great advice. It's amazing how we'll try all of this technical stuff and sometimes... it's just dirty. _________________ Donovan

It is great advice. I had the same problem with the main production machine at the radio station. It was giving me the same error. I shut it down, blew it out and just left the hood off (prod room is hot anyway). Put it back online and no more problems
If you'll make it a habit, once a month, blow out your system, regardless if it's really clogged up or not. A clean machine is a happy machine |

Let me chime in as well agreeing with the cleaning out of the system once in a while. After you do that, get the coils on your refrigerator.
One thing many users do in an attempt to cool a system is remove the case. That in fact reduces the cooling of most parts in the system since a properly designed case has airflow in mind. If you remove the case, you are removing that movement of air from input to output.
I don't think many of us do that since noise is always a consideration, but just in case. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

That is a good point Bob and I am well aware of the airflow path thru the case to keep the system cool. I am not recommending anyone leave the hood off your system. In my case though, the machine won't stay cool enough with the hood on. I have added an extra fan...but it still seems to cause the error. With the hood off the box, it doesn't give any problems. It's been this way for some time now and all is well with it. It's one of those generic white box cases.
We'll call it a consideration that was not taken into consideration when the new studio was laid out and built. There are several cpu's in a rather tight space and the airflow in there is not that great. I do what I must to keep the thing up and running.
Thanks!

Allen,
I almost made a disclaimer on your situation. I knew where you were coming from and there are always exceptions to the rule. If there is not good flow though the case to begin with, the added case helps none.
Many systems include a small application that can monitor your case temps, CPU temps, fan speed, etc... I recommend you include them on boot up so that you can receive alarms when you reach a certain temperature. You can also have it alarm for a low fan speed, so if a fan gets clogged up with cat hair and slows to 5 RPM, it will let you know.
These applications aren't always included on default, but are often available on a utilities CD that came with your system/motherboard. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

If you really want to treat your baby right, take some steel wool and polish that motherboard until the whole things shines! _________________ Jeff

this reminds me to take one of my systems and fix the cabling tonight (too long, I prefer it to be neater, especially when it restricts the proper seating of the chassis panels).
And this is why I love this site _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

That's an excellent plan Todd.
I also copy my hard drives and keep that copy in a safe place so I don't lose any critical data.
Here's an example of my latest copy.
