I had the same question. Why do we care what he has to say? _________________ Jeff

People stop feeding this madness. This person is so devoid of attention that even negative attention is acceptable. This is a person who is very insecure with little or no self esteem. The only way to rid the world of this kind of behavior is to let it go and ignore him. The more you discuss it the more you are playing into his game. |

Jeff...
Don't really care per-se....just interesting to see another's perspective....agree with some ....don't on many others....interesting nonetheless!
As I have said before: VOICE2007 was one of THE most amazing experiences I have ever had both personally & professionally. The fact that I choose not to go this year doesn't change that.

Don't mind me . . . I just get fired up about things sometimes and then I can't help myself.
Anyway, Voice 08 sounds good to me. I'll probably try to make it out. |

It started out sounding mean to me, then I was actually amused by some of it. At least he DID say, in effect, "hey, all of this is just my opnion".
Whenever I go to an event, I try to have little in the way of pre-conceived expectations of how it'll be. I hope to be educated / entertained / motivated (depending on what the event is and why I'm going) but you just never know.
As with anything pricey, make sure you can afford to not have the money that you'll spend on it, in case you don't end up liking it or getting anything out of it. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Todd (who originally resurrected this thread with a happy sentiment):
I AGREE TOTALLY....woot! All y'all are awesome!
Liz:
Say it ain't so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......it won't be the same without you!
Todd Schick: 'Don't know who you are, but your rancor has a genesis somewhere in resentment. Anywho, I linked to your rant on my website, cause you obviously have something to say, and took a long time to say it.
VO-BB'ers. I'll see you all at VOICE 2008 as (again) the MC/Introducer... As I've publicly stated on my blog (http://www.courvo.biz) I think this conference is worth it... but it's only a 4-hour drive for me.

It's beginning to look like we should start a new thread on VOICE2008, but until then, I gotta say I wish James hadn't booked his conference over the very same days and in the same city as Dan O'Day's Radio Creative & Production Summit. It bespeaks bad sportsmanship. (While Dan hadn't widely announced the dates when James announced his, Dan's been doing his seminar in L.A. that same weekend for several years.)
Dan's got Pat Fraley, Nancy Wolfson and Dick Orkin lined up to speak on VO, and Dan's doing a copy writing session. Dick Orkin is one of my idols and I'd love to meet him. Dan's seminars are smaller (about 150 or so?) cost about the same, and are geared more for professionals. We've already got one major beloved VO-BBer who's going to spend all his time at the O'Day seminar and maybe visit the VOICE seminar.
I think the phrase for those who care about this kind of stuff is: Arrrrgh.

Bruce,
Dan limits attendance at the Summit each year to a maximum of 100. _________________ Be well,

While neither defending nor criticizing Todd's 'rant' I can tell you a bit about him.
He is a successful voice over artist in Toronto who gives of his time and knowledge at very, very reasonable rates to people trying to get into the business.
I actually turned to him when I was first thinking of getting into the business and eventually worked with him to create my first demos. Todd also gave me advice on what equipment to buy and came over to the house to help me set it up - at no charge. He and the audio engineer consequently sat with me and gave me help with marketing ideas, etc. just to get me started.
Not sure what his agenda was/is on this piece - but I for one am quite grateful for the help and advice he generously gave me when I was starting out - most of it on his own time and his own dime. _________________ Elaine

bwah ha ha, chrissy!
perhaps he's so naysayery because of those very, very reasonable rates from which he cannot catapult higher? jealousy? general malaise? whatever.
i say, with regards to mr. miles's post and in the spirit of the thread: arrrrgh.
i do adore that "bad sportsmanship" descriptor ... _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

After 20 years in the music business, one of the things I've learned is critics are guys who couldn't get laid in high school.

Well... that explains everything!
I mean... for those kinds of people.
You know... the critic types of people.
