This was part of the direction in an audition lead today on voices.com:

Dass is pronounced with a long A as in Father

Well, I've heard it pronounced " FAAther" in Ireland... but that direction doesn't compute...

I think you're reading it wrong...it's supposed to be an "o" sound as in "rice"

ya know, I'm getting a little tired of all voice notes saying "authoritative and strong".

As opposed to "submissive and weak"?

Well, it could be worse. A friend of mine was in the studio directing a VO for a kid's show she was producing. They needed the female VO to be a bit gravelly as part of the character voice, and to get the point across, the engineer told the female VO to "put some balls on it"...

My favorite direction ever, from an engineer I've worked with for years and years and years. Client was rambling on in the booth about what she wanted. He simply says "Do it again, only put less Moe in it this time". I knew exactly what he meant, next take was a keeper.
