As for the question does anyone use LinkedIn, here's an example:

A couple of months ago an old friend from college for whom I've done some freelance work was nice enough to write me a recommendation not long after we'd connected on LinkedIn. I wrote to thank her for her kind comments and in the email exchanges that followed she mentioned that she was looking for a professional writer to take on a significant book project that would entail a lot of international travel over the next year. I promised to keep my eyes open.

The following day, another old friend responded to my LinkedIn connection request. When he and I worked together in the 80s he worked mostly as a musician, but in the last number of years has been concentrating on writing books. A light bulb went off in my head because I knew that he all ready had an affinity for the subject matter of my other friend's book project.

I wrote to each separately to get permission to connect them, and then sent each a profile connection through LinkedIn. That was a couple of months ago. 2 weeks ago I received a call from my writer friend letting me know that it appears he is going to be hired to do this book project, about which he is thrilled as is my old college friend who needed the writer.

And I get the joy of knowing that I helped make this whole thing come together.

I think we should start some kind of v/o group there. It's rather cumbersome at times to get access to or connect with people you know, and unless you have their email address, you're SOL and have to be introduced. I know a lot of folks from the boards but don't have schooling background or work experience with them, and I don't have their email addresses. But we chat on forums or Facebook, etc.

If there's an easier way, someone please enlighten me.

Yes, Liz...

That change went in to effect sometime in the last couple of months. It makes it a whole lot easier to connect with folks you know on-line when you don't have an email address handy.

The one thing I don't like about the recent round of changes is that I no longer can archive my invitations after they've been accepted.

I also found another way: Under Colleagues I put something like "Fellow VO-BB Poster", and that now works, as the system recalls that as a selection so it's easier to connect.
