Just wanted to let everyone know I just received an email asking me to verify my paypal account. I don't know how many people use paypal but those that do should know that this is fraudulent. I clicked on the link (did not give my password or any other info). The page looked exactly like the paypal home page with one MAJOR difference. No security lock in the corner of the page. Please, Please be careful with this. I have included the false link for y'all to view here and have reported this to paypal.

I get 'em ALL the time. PayPal, Ebay and even my local bank. My advice is to NEVER, NEVER, NEVER click on a link in an email. ALWAYS put your mouse on the link and check the status bar to see what the link points to (I'm not sure if ALL mail programs will let you do this, but mine does). There is so much phishing going on nowadays and I'm sure there are victims every day that do not know any better. To check any account, be it PayPal, Ebay or your local financial institution, ALWAYS go directly to their website with your browser and log in. Also make sure your browser displays the SECURE icon and has the latest updates, security related or otherwise. This way, there's no mistake.

These e-mails are also disguised as "A Question from an Ebay Member".
The Return address looks real-- but check the long headers and you'll see that it didn't originate from Ebay.

And BESIDES!
The pages any of these links take you to aren't Ebay pages.
Look at the URL.

Rule of thumb to remember (at least as far as Paypal and eBay are concerned): If it wasn't addressed to you by name, it's not real. Trash it.

If... not if...When you receive emails of that nature, do the following:
Forward them to the following address spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com depending on the subject matter.
I was told this by the Tech's at Paypal. You will get a resonse back from Paypal with-in a short time. In ALL cases, these emails are completely FALSE.

You're absolutely right Bailey. I have forwarded several emails that were purportedly from Ebay or Paypal to them. Got a response within 24 hours confirming what I already knew, they were fake.

For some reason, I don't get these bogus emails at the address linked to my account - it's always to a different email address, so it's easy even for my sluggish brain to recognise them for what they are.

Received the exact same email that DB got again (except mine didn't say D cool

forwarded to paypal got a quick response and as we all know it is fraud.

I never receive the responses from PayPal or Ebay any more-- My junk filter snags those. The stupid Phishes it lets through.

I received the very same message with one caveat-the return address was: service@playpal.com.

I hope no one falls victim to this.

I think some of the best advice I recieved was a few years ago from a CSR at VISA. She told me that they would NEVER contact me to verify my credit card. They already have all the information! Ditto for Ebay/Paypal.

Under no circumstances should you click any of the links in the email. Even if you don't give them the info. they now know they have a "live" email address. Congratulations! You have just verified you will respond to SPAM and they will send you other trash or worse...sell your email address to some other cyber slimball! Angry

I felt pretty stupid after she informed my I was creating more problems by "looking" and following the links.

Now I just check'em off and hit DELETE. Ninja
