My sympathies.
Did I ever mention the lack of a sense of humor in that profession?
Jeez... almost as sensitive as those with CS/IT backgrounds.

//has background in IT, and several degrees to match it
Wait. Deebs, didn't you have a picture of you and Don that resembled a traditional Santa Claus picture? _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I've got a journalism minor. Does that mean I'm less smelly? |

I spent the better part of my professional life in a news room. Not sure if broadcast journalists fall under your sweeping generalization or not Yoda...one thing I learned in a busy news room - with the phones, teletype, cable news, police, fire and state scanners all screeching for attention all day - one learns to ignore all background noise which does not merit one's attention in order to focus on more important issues , hence my lack of response until now.
//kidding.
//not really.
//no...just busting your chops
///or am I?
Oh- and I disagree completely with your other sweeping generalization about journalists having no sense of humor .. . _________________ Moe Egan

I'm (about to be married) to a reporter, one of the most upstanding people I know, or I wouldn't be tying the knot with him.
I heard something different about the avatars with DLF--that he got a kick out of it and thought it was great to have brought a bit of VOICE 2007 ("our Woodstock" as Ms. Snively so aptly coins it) to this board. Really doubt he was "disturbed" about them.
But I'm here today to tell you I had a dream about, and with Don, last night. I arrived at his house, off a busy street but on a large piece of property in the country (go figure). DLF was napping on the couch, and members of his family and extended family were in various parts of the house, also resting. I leaned over toward Don and he awakened. We talked and laughed about lot of things, and then many more people started arriving for a picnic! All the players made cameos, like Pat Fraley and Joe Cip and Beau Weaver. It was on the one hand strange, since I heard Don had died, and wonderful since it was a celebration.

I agree
When I was at mass this Sunday and the time came for the prayers for the deceased, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Don's name from the altar.

Wow...I think that's really cool...given that he was the VOG and all....

Jebus, Yoda, have mercy. You insult a profession, and then scold someone in that profession for getting peeved.
It might be to your benefit to temper your observations.
The Santa thing between Don and me came from his being seated on a high chair, with people in a line coming to speak briefly to him and get their picture taken.
When I got my turn I stood close and said in my little kid voice, "Santa, can I have a U87 for Christmas?"

Well this will be one for the record books as I of all people, the biggest trouble maker of all time... ask you all to settle down, pull back and regroup.
Humor attempt failed (been there, done that). Nerve endings on display for all to see...I've been that person too. Someone's been misinterpreted...happens to me all the time. So all of you on all sides of the line, settle. ‘Taint the time nor the place and people are starting to stare.
Must be this IS a family here as our dysfunction is on display via the fights that have broken out at this here wake.
The bar is now closed. _________________ - Peter

I did no such thing... There's a difference between having some fun and scolding.
We need to add a vocal part to this board, too often we the words define our meaning, and not the other way around.
Which is why I didn't mind the shots taken back... obviously in good fun, and not meant to be taken seriously.
And you know what, that's kind of what Don was about too. How many goofy things did he get filmed doing, or volunteer for, or in some cases suggest on his own (as one person aptly put it in this thread, he always had a mischievous gleam in his eye)? Part of what made him great was his capacity to not take things too seriously, including himself.
EDIT: Peter beat me to it, but yes the failboat has arrived at my attempt at humor. At least Bob liked it though.
EDIT #2: For those who did not get the mass e-mail from the usual sources, an email address has been set up to which everyone is invited to send their thoughts, prayers, and remembrances for Don's family. You may attach audio, photos, or even video. All will be printed, and presented to Don's wife Nita and daughters, Christine, Skye and Elyse. The email address is: rememberingDLF A_T gmail.com (trying to avoid the spambots there). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Apologies for the double-post.
In the hullabaloo we all missed something (or at least I did. It was probably mentioned somewhere on this site earlier).
Congrats Diane. Look forward to seeing some photos from the wedding _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser
