Had a dream last night that I missed a call from my agent to voice a 100-spot campaign for Foot Locker cause I got lazy and left my cell in the car. Called back and the gig had already been given to someone else. I remember breaking down crying when I called back, begging for another chance!
Has anyone else had an experience with a voiceover nightmare? _________________ Joe Szymanski

Nothing VO related but I have a recurring nightmare (once or twice a year) in which I've re-enlisted in the Navy and I'm leaving on another 6 month cruise. |

When I was on the radio, I frequently had nightmares about dead air with me completely helpless to prevent it.
No VO bad dreams though! _________________ Threadjackers local 420

When I was on the radio - I used to have dreams about running out of music - because it HAPPENED!
The would give us a cardboard box full of carts with individual songs - we were allowed to play them in any order. But he occasionally didn't include enough songs in the box - and I would have to rob the other weekend DJ's boxes of music - which were sometimes hard to find. I didn't have a key to the music library room. _________________ Playing for a living...

LOL.
Yeah I still have the radio dreams, which are no less frustrating. Actually, it's more of a recurring "I'm-trying-to-talk-but-I-can't-spit-my-words-out-clearly" dream. _________________ Joe Szymanski

No bad VO dreams (have PLENTY from my previous job though), but thank you for reminding me that my cell phone is in my car (and likely uncharged). It's a bad habit of mine - I'm constantly leaving it in my car! _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

i had one a couple of months ago - maybe longer - in which i was hosting the local swap-n-shop program and could NOT get out. calls kept coming in for "two boys suits size 10 & 12 for sale, almost new" and "i'll trade a shotgun for a three-wheeler" ... i COULD NOT end the program. I think it's a foreshadowing of my own personal hell. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

When we had our baby, I was scheduled on a Tuesday morning to do a V.O. session that I completely forgot about (for obvious reasons). Fortunately, the ad agency had postponed the session. I found out about it the next day when I finally checked my voicemail.
Talk about lucky breaks in an otherwise nightmarish scenario! _________________ Lou Zucaro

i had a dream once that, like kara, i was asleep on the air and a song was running out. i wake up just in time to read a liner and segue into the next song. as it happens it wasn't a dream at all... woke up just before Expose's "Season's Change" completely faded out, grabbed a liner card, read the liner, segued into another song.
lemme tell you... i was watching the hotline for a long time after that waiting for the to call and tell me i was fired. ah to be a young deejay again!
now for another nightmare... being drunk on the air... well that's for another topic. _________________ Jim Feldman

My nightmare used to be being sober on air........
Handling 200 request show phone calls from whiny 8-13 year olds all demanding the same song by some vacuous syntho-bop 80's excuse for musicians without a skinful was my real nightmare!
....but it hasn't affected my outlook on life at all |

In my case, it was 70s crap.
Caller: "Can you play Billy, Don't Be A Hero?"
Me: "Are you listening to the radio now?"
Caller: "Yeah."
Me: "Yeah? Well, it's playing right now! (holds phone up to monitor, then slams it down)
I wasn't big on requests. I'm surprised I lasted as long as I did there. |

We all must be tapped into the collective unconscious here---my recurring dream of many years is being back on the air, my record has run out, and I can't find the RIGHT next record to play (records were the vehicle of choice in 80's radio)....there are all kinds of records, but they are either the wrong format, or not from the right category according to the music clock, etc.....it's exhausting......the dead air is DEAFENING and it goes on FOREVER... |
