'Just came across this on Go Daddy. I like this company. It's headed by Bob Parsons, who has launched innovative web ideas for years.
I used them to purchase and host my website, and they're quite reasonable. They are also very good on understandable (American) phone support. I have NOT purchased this offering, but it may be just the ticket for someone in voice-over.

Also, www.woot.com is maybe my most favorite and fun website of all. If for nothing else than the product descriptions they come up with every day...and they frequently have fantastic deals. One new item each day. That's it. But it frequently sells out by mid-day. They post the new stuff each night at midnight CST.

Hi DC. Go-Daddy's been favorably mentioned in other threads. I believe more than a couple of vo-bb'ers use that service. I really dug the Super Bowl commercials. The guy with the O2 mask takes me into hysterical laughter, every time. _________________ Charlie |

I love Woot. Problem is that because everyone knows about it now, the great stuff is gone about 2 minutes after 1AM EST. <g> Between that, Newegg and E-Bay I've got my hands full. LOL |

I've never claimed to be the brightest light in the habor. But today I'm looking at a USB HD with 20 GB of storage for $70 on "woot". I have a 180 Gig Western Digital, external USB HD on my system now. With rebate, it set me back about $110. Is there some secret link on that site that'll open me to a world of riches that I'm missing? _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

I was curious about that too. These days, $1/GB is the most anybody should pay for a hard drive. |

Well, I have no use for a 20 gig drive, but what's so awesome about that one to me is the physical size, not the HD size.
Of course, I know guys that bought ipods and use them to sneakernet files around. Bigger capacity, lot more jack. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

My computer guy made a 60-gig Firewire-powered external hard drive for me.
Cost a couple of bills, but doesn't need AC and is only about as big as a man's wallet. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Drew,
You may have a point....I'm not that much up on how much HD's cost. I think size -- as Hart mentioned -- is certainly a consideration. Is the $1/Gig a good rule of thumb now? If so, I just got taken for the 80-Gig USB HD I just bought at Frye's Electronics for $139.00. It's a Western Digital, but for me, the size, again, was a factor....and this thing is pretty tiny, and VERY portable.
But, to answer your question -- there's no magic button -- but just keep checking, Woot has some incredible deals sometimes.
Thanks!

The $1.00 a holler...er... gig rule is a good for the HD alone... then you need add on the external enclosure, average around $40.00 (for a good one), and shipping and handling, so it's a toss up on the 20 gig Cigar. But, like has been mentioned in prior posts, I don't have a lot of use for a small (in gigs) HD anymore... The physical size is "cute" though...
Just bought a $250.00 gig drive for around the same price... and am buying another terrabyte drive next month.
But the site, worth watching... some good deals are avaiailable if you watch.
