To the skeptics, here you go:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ifdl22y83pmknlo/Compare-Mac_to_Android_usbdualpre-AT3035.wav
I'd say this is indeed for real, folks! AND Android has a leg up on the list of compatible devices over iOS, by a LONG shot.
CEntrance MicPort Pro IS USB class compliant, so it should work great with the Galaxy S3, as well as the Shure X2u, Blue Icicle, AT2020USB, and many other devices!
I hope Santa brings me a Blue Spark Digital ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

IMHO, not as good as TwistedWave, but Tape Machine is close. There are some much more sophisticated, full multitrack a s, but I haven't really spent any time playing around with them. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Audio Evolution, from the same guys who did this. Eventually, they plan to integrate the two a s into one, for a full featured DAW with recording capability. _________________ Don Brookshire

The problem with mics that small is the diaphragm is too small to effectively capture the quality sound you need, and it probably has too much self noise. The Apogee MiC and Blue Spark Digital are good options for iOS, but there is nothing comparable for android until this thread's possibility.
Even if you have a mobile system, you really want to deliver pro quality sound for everything you send out. Even an audition needs to sound professional. If you send an amazing read with crappy sound, and another person sends a decent read with pro quality sound, the deck is stacked against you, and you diminish your chances of being hired.
With today's technology, you really don't have to sacrifice the quality for mobility. I have delivered audio to production companies that I recorded on my ipad (with twisted wave) and an Apogee MiC. I'm not taking auditions here...I mean final audio for projects. It didn't sound as good as my studio, for sure...but it is high enough quality to take on the road.
If you can take your go to mic and interface on the road with your android tablet, that would be even better!
But as to your question...I wouldn't waste my time with mics like that. The built-in mic is probably just as good. |

I did another test recording, this time reading some copy.

There is as ever so slight buzzing noise in there, but it is VERY faint. Now if I could just find something as good as TwistedWave for post processing on Android! Nothing I've tried has a useable noise gate. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Given that I have plugged the wrong end of cables into the wrong places and expected the things to work, can someone tell me how the MicPortPro actually gets connected to the GS3? _________________ Playing for a living...

You need what is called an "On The Go" aka "OTG" cable. It interfaces from you phone to the usb cable. Some of the big box stores have them. I bought mine off of Amazon for less than $ 5.00.

The usb otg cable is essential to the connection.
Unlike a standard usb cable, otg adds a fifth "pin" to the connector, which enables host/slave communication between devices, allowing your phone or tablet to serve as the host.
Follow the link at the front of this thread to find out if your phone or tablet supports this capability, and for a list of compatible interfaces, usb mics, etc.
While the list is still being updated by the developer, it is fairly comprehensive, and includes a fair amount of gear already used by many of us here.
As George has already shown, it works. Software that has all of the bells and whistles we're accustomed to is still to come, but there are basic tools in the Play store to get you started, and, now that they've opened Pandora's box, I'm sure a full-featured DAW is not far off....
