iTunes itself will convert wma to MP3. But not DRM protected files. So she's still out of luck if she downloads stuff from the library if she gets an iPod. _________________ Jeff

I recently "invested" in the Creative Zen 60 GB Vision W. I say invested because it is pricey. But, I wouldn't trade it for the world.
I listen to podcasts, demos, albums, air checks, FM radio, etc... PLUS I can convert and watch DVD movies on it. The wide screen makes it a very cool personal player.
It can also be used for data storage. This puppy seems to do it all. But, I can't wait for them to make a leather case/easel for it. |

I have the SanDisk Sansa too and like it. I don't store any "music" on it. I just listen to podcasts while I'm doing yard work. If I were storing music I'd be more inclined toward the Creative Zen or iPod because the interface seems easier. |

Only on iTunes for Windows though. The Mac version of iTunes does nothing with .wma files. That is why I bought EasyWMA.....and why it even exists in the first place.
It is worth noting from my previous comments, that I never even opened the iPod that I got free with my Mac computer. I had already planned on selling it in the first place, since I had just bought the SanDisk Sansa.... and it had an FM radio on board. So, I have not had any experience with the Nano iPod...good or bad. _________________ Ben

I have a Memorex MP3 player that I bought at Target about 3 years ago. I think I paid $90.
I did have issues figuring out where to buy music and upload (Music Jukebox or whatever was a real pain in the ya ya, and a rip off IMO)... until I discovered WalMart.com. I'm actually not a WalMart shopper just b/c the store is always so packed... but I really like their site for music. $.88/song usually.
Anyway, I really like it It has an FM tuner, which is a requirement of mine, even though I don't use it often. The player is small and clips to my shorts when I run (they're probably even smaller nowadays). OH, and it has a little port so I can add memory, b/c as is, it only holds about 100 or so songs, I think.
I've considered getting the little iPod for about the past year (b/c it is so small!), but keep asking myself, "Why, my mp3 player works great!" so I haven't. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

I've had a Creative Zen Nano for several years and am more than happy with it. Thinking of upgrading to something larger (this is 512) and that will do video. I mostly listen to podcasts, some music, and use it for backing tracks in performance.
I picked up a couple iRiver IFP's for two of my kids, haven't really done much with them other than rip some of their CD's and copy music, but they do allow for line in recording. (older models) |

SanDisk Sansa here, too. We have 2 in our house. A 2GB and a 6GB. Love 'em. I'm a Napster-To-Go subscriber and an Audible.com subscriber. I can fill up the Sansas with unlimited music for my monthly fee... and my audio books from Audible go on there too. _________________ Dave "Christi" Felton

Doc... I nearly pee'd my shorts reading that.
I was referring to the players nowadays.... unfortunately, my short size is the same. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Another vote for iPod. I have a little Nano and the interface between iTunes and the iPod couldn't be easier. I load podcasts and audio books from Audible.com as well as customized collections of music with a click and a drag, zip. I'm on a Mac, but my wife uses hers with iTunes on a PC and it works well for her too.
I bought the rubbery skin case for it (I'm sure there's a more proper term, but I forget) and a lanyard so it's easy to hang around the neck and go.
No wonder Apple stock is climbing like crazy.

I've been on the verge of a Nano purchase for about a year now.
My old player is a warhorse but it's so beat up that I have to secure it with duct tape every time I run.
Finding an MP3 player isn't too hard. Finding one you can run with is turning out to be a pain. |
