Either you are or you aren't

Either you do or you do not

Either way, you are welcome to play

Let's not get into a urinating contest, laddies, because if we do, I'm on my eighth Moosehead and will win.
Exercises like this are fun and instructive, since no two people will interpret or read copy in the same way, and our pro exchanges on the identical bit are always illuminating.
To me, Mike faltered in posting his own read after making some fairly sensible suggestions. To these ears (and they do have one regional and one national playing as we text), Mike Cain wins the early going.
Mr. Sommers' effort, meanwhile, is a bit back in the pack.

It is worth noting that many VO's pay large chunks of money to voice coaches who provide scripts, advice, and harsh criticism, but never, ever, ever put forth their own audio take for comparison.
When I get a direction-laden audition request from Big Fish, they do not append an MP3 with the suggestion that I "do it like this."

The Cards' batting coach, similarly, does not shoo Mr. Pujols out of the batter's box to take some hacks himself. He'd look silly.

You are either an expert who advises, counsels, and teaches. Or you record.
Both at the same time is as risky as simultaneously doing high-wire acrobatics and a Power Point presentation.
One or the other is bound to suffer.

Since I missed out on the be a Brit for a moment contest, I decided I'd try this one - attempting conversational and doing it in less than the assigned time...after consuming 1 and a half glasses of Pina Coladas - hey, no comments - it was Saturday afternoon!

Operator error - forgot which domain I had dumped the file into. Fixed now.

Connie your link is bad.

I may have faltered in posting my read, but I can take my beatings with the rest and I don't purpose to be an authority. None of us are going to hit it out of the park the first time and as a matter of fact "self directing" is my weak point. But more informative suggestions would be helpful.

We can carryon with subsequent retakes while we all build and learn or we call it an evening.

Mike,

You got the words out nicely, I think your opening inflection was a little to high in pitch start it out a little lower on "OK," this should give you a little more head room for when you need to go higher for the "Hi honey"--- Relax. Your "Hi honey guess where I'm calling from" was a little staccato probably because you started high on the sentence be for, smooth it out and play it like you are talking to your honey.

Look for the rhythm of the copy and you'll nail it.

You opener was a little rough but you found your stride way about a 1/3 in.
I'd put a little more bound in your read, But over all Great job Love to hear a take 2.

Play with "hi honey" part, and "Probably quite a relief, when you remember what your first car phone looked like." This is a joke so I would play it as such.

I liked what you did with this, you seemed to play it dead pan, but there was a smile and a wink in there, great job. I wouldn't be afraid to push it a little more on the car phone joke.

This is a nice smooth mellow read, you have the pipes. All i suggest is play with it a little more, and have fun with the jokes, which I think would contras nicely with your vocal styling. Along with a little smile and a wink in your voice too.
