Well, thanks much to Stefania who, by complimenting my old website, reminded me how much I hated it
So I finally built a new one.
I run XP and Vista using IE7...if any of you have a few moments and use different OS's or browsers, would you mind taking a look and seeing if it pretty much looks like this:
(screen shot)
Actual site's here
The top black bar and gradation underneath are supposed to go all the way from left to right, regardless of the width of your display / browser.
Thanks in advance! _________________ Lou Zucaro

It looks good on my computer! The same as the screen shot. Very nice- I like how clean it looks. _________________ Threadjackers local 420

Lou,
WinXP Pro SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.12, and everything looks very nice, but the black bar and shading don't go all the way from left to right. They extend just a little past both the left and right sides of the lower, main, part of the site.
I'll test it on Linux later this evening and post again after I do. _________________ Be well,

Lou, I absolutely love it!!!! It looks fabby. I'm on WindowsXP, IE 7.0. Seriously, top notch.
I just might have to talk with you about a re-design. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Lou,
I am using Vista, Firefox 2.0.0.12 and see the same thing Bob does. The bar and gradation don't go all the way across. This is quite possibly because I have a wide screen monitor. If I expand the browser window the gap on the sides becomes larger. If I compress the window I can get the bar to go completely across.
Since I got the new monitor I've noticed this with a lot of web sites. The pages may not be programmed with 16x9 aspect ratio in mind. I'm not a web site designer so what the heck do I know.
I just tested on this VO-BB page and it maintains the margins no matter how much I expand. _________________ Ron Phillips

Hey all,
Thanks much for the kind words & info Caryn!
Bob and Ron, much appreciated...it should go all the way across regardless of browser / resolution so I think I need to check CSS and see what's going on (since that part is done with a div style).
And thanks again Kara for following up.
A bug hunting I go... _________________ Lou Zucaro

Lou,
OK. In Mandriva 2008 Linux, Firefox 2.0.0.11 shows up the same way as in Windows XP, with the black bar and gradation only extending a little way past edges of the main lower part of the site.
However, in Opera 9.2.3 (under the same OS), it shows both extended all the way to the edge of the browser and when I resize the browser window they expand or contact with the window.
I hope this is helpful. _________________ Be well,

Looking good Lou - in both IE and Firefox, although I am experiencing the same issue with it not extending full screen in Firefox. _________________ Elaine

Yeah, I've since found a couple of references to Firefox not handling negative z-indexing properly for divs.
Since I built the site so quickly, I did it with tables rather than using divs exclusively, so I'll probably have to re-build things over time in a different fashion. Likely I'll have to bump up each div as a result of the Firefox thing.
Thanks! _________________ Lou Zucaro

haha, there are a total of 3 people using that configuration, Bob. And the other 2 probably won't see Lou's site. _________________ Jeff

Jeff,
True enough, but I was just trying to be thorough; though if you include European and South American users, the total is substantially more than 3. _________________ Be well,
