I have a filing cabinet full of freelance contracts and they all include what is expected of me and how much I will receive in return.
The exclusivity clause above amounts to "we are offering you nothing and you will not accept work from our competitors from the date you sign this agreement".
The above is not a contract it is an agreement, in law a contract must include "consideration" which is lawyer speak for money or a payment.
I suppose one could sign it and ignore the terms and conditions as the company concerned couldn't enforce it any way. May give a few lawyers a laugh. |

These contracts definitely come from lawyers eager to do something with their time and not from the legitmate concerns of the business owner.
My 2 cents: Go ahead Bettie, tell 'em you'll sign the contract if they can guarantee a minimum monthly fee of $____ (something nice for you). They may bite, or just back down on the contract idea.

The massive, never-ending snow (ended today) had me out schralping the hills and so I return to the forum a day later and wow! thanks everybody. Indeed, I might like to rewrite the contract to MY terms, with some guarantee, and perhaps not any total buyout inclusion. I shudder to think how many years a little :06 line ("Your Crackberry is addictive, a public service message from the A-T-F") could run and run. Sheeott, there's a local commercial for which I did VO while also in radio in this market, and that was 3 years ago anyway, and it's still running. Arrrrrgh!!!!!!! That was when I didn't know any better, when I didn't have this board, when I just...said...yes. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

A "warning to travelers not to lose track of their luggage, etc." I voiced, ran in the Las Vegas Airport teeminal for years and years. My kids thought it was a hoot.
Lessee, more than 30-million travelers through the terminal per year, multiplied by 6-7 years equals......
