Reminds me of the Beyond the Fringe routine on the difficulty of the exam you take to become a coal miner:

"They only ask you one question, they say 'who are you?' I got 75% on that!"

It’s a good thing you’re a Voice Over talent… and not a Taxidermist.
She would have asked you to send a taxi to pick her up.

So, do they take care of their clients skin problems as they drive or do they pull over?

...ME! ME! ME!

The poor woman is desperate. She's trying to cut to the chase and find the gig as fast as she can. In that desperation mode, it's tough to incorporate all the social graces. And we independent types who are not in a corporate environment or some kind of group situation where we can overhear the salespeople in the next cubicles and copy some of their winning strategies are left to fend for ourselves. ALSO (Lordy, they're going to wish they blocked me from the board.)... I know that "I" work for myself because I prefer to work by myself and for myself. I'm a loner and happy that way. How many actors are wallflowers when they don't need to be "on." The insecurities that often form the core of many talented loners also make it hard for us (Moi? Talented? Why, thank you. I kiss my hand.) to effectively put ourselves "out there." I learned to be social out of necessity. I teach half the week and my students think I am Ms. Personality -- outgoing and all that. Some people never get to that point. The result is that unintentionally they come off sounding very full of themselves.

The woman who called was talking to herself when she said, "That won't work," or whatever the phrase was. She may find her way and find the answers via her "bull in a china shop" approach -- if she can get past her insecurity long enough to listen and learn. If a person walks into a wall enough times, a person is likely to try walking into another part of the wall for a while. Sometimes we manage to find a door or a window.

BTW, I giggled at all of the responses to the original post. Well, I didn't exactly giggle. Giggling is weird at this age.
