Vernon, you and I are of the same mindset. I'll record in CS5.5 just because I like the setup and the shortcuts I've created. And for general single-file editing, I also do that in CS5.5 because I like the auto-heal feature and especially the floating volume control adjustment knob.

But for large-scale editing, especially like I'm doing at this very minute (well, okay, not THIS very minute since THIS very minute I'm typing this... but I took a break from editing thousands of e-learning files...) I use CE Pro 2.0. If I have a large audio file - such as for e-learning - that I have to then edit into many smaller files, I will highlight a large chunk of the audio, copy to new, then edit into smaller files. Problem is, CS5.5 always defaults to 32 bit when you copy to new, and no, I've found no way around that. So then, before you save every stinkin' individual NEW file you're editing, you have to go thru the laborious process of changing the bit rate to 16 bit. Arrrrgggghhhh! Utterly unnecessary.

Adobe seems to be getting a reputation for bloating products, quadrupling prices and adding nothing of real value.

There have also been times when my internet connection has gone down. It hasn't happened often or for all that long, but it has happened and is likely to happen again. At those times, I'd prefer my ability to function be hampered rather than completely obstructed.

Who knows what they may be doing in the future, but for now "The Cloud" is a little bit of a buzzword.

The software lives on YOUR HARD DRIVE. I haven't tested this yet, but as I understand it, you can disconnect from the Internet for up to 29 days with no problems. But then it nags you: "I need to check in with my Mother to make sure I am allowed to stay at your house for dinner."

Put it on your laptop? Edit while cruising on the airplane. For now Creative Cloud means you have some on-line storage area for files/data... in the cloud. But using that is optional.

For now!

Ahhh vkuehn, thank you. I still do not want to ask permission to use MY files,

I am not impressed; but I am the one who said CD's were a fad.

I don't guess I understand that declaration. Your have the program software on your hard drive. You store your files on your hard drive.

Why would you need to ask anyone's permission?

I believe it's coming to that --- soon! Just did the VO for an Adobe conference and they have plans to charge for the cloud usage soon.

The program sits on your your hard drive and updates are not compulsory. Not sure if you can roll back to an earlier version if an update causes issues, but knowing Adobe, I guess there will be a way.

I was using Saw, SawPlus and SawStudio almost since the electric abacus first appeared, but Audition CS6 leaves it for dead. It's insane how good this program is ....and the way you can touch up your work? It feels like cheating it's so good.

Cloud for general backup storage? Fine. Cloud for important software applications? Not for me. I don't trust them for one, for privacy or reliability, and for two I don't like their getting their hooks into my wallet month after month (or yearly). It's their attempt to get consistent monthly income that in the long run will far exceed the income from individual sales.

What a gambit.

Gee, how can I get in on that action? Ninja

Oh, I already am. Audiobook royalty-share-only deals. I'll be rich I tell you!

Feels like we are being herded like cattle to the pen, whether we like it or not, everything will reside in the cloud for various reasons. Movies already live there with Netflix, games, applications, audiobooks, music; pay for access to the net, to the cloud, next will be the virtual reality suit, maybe even a Matrix hookup, red pill or blue, can't wait to pay them to install a plug at the base of my skull.

Found this article interesting on the gaming front.

Why is it that I'm thinking of going the complete opposite direction by selling my house and building a 1,000 sf cabin with geothermal and solar?

I'm probably reiterating stuff already said, but despite the fact that it may be a good deal for a production house that uses most of the elements in the Creative Suite, for a user of a single part (e.g. Audition) it is really a terrible deal.

Why on earth would I think it's a good deal to pay $240 per year for a program, when it used to cost $299 to buy outright? Adobe have repeatedly proved that they have no sense when it comes to pricing (a perfect example is the recent Australian debacle where it was cheaper to fly from Sydney to LA, buy CS there, and fly back rather than pay the Australian price.)

Buy one for $5, but call now, you can get two for $15, operators are standing by... and people will go for the deal because they're told it's a deal.

This isn't.

Adobe Horror Story #327,500,200,321

We bought a small program from Adobe called Visual Communicator. It was mainly for quick and dirty video production in the field -- nowhere near the bells and whistles of AE or Premiere, etc. But, good enough for some quick production when we needed to demo something. I upgraded my Windows to SP2, and kept using the program, no problem. It ran fine. I moved to a new computer, and when I went to install VC, it told me I had to call for authorization. Fine. I call the number. Get Bangalore. Am told that since my system had SP2, they couldn't authorize the install. Yes, they understood it worked fine, but it wasn't authorized to be on the system with SP2 since nobody had updated VC for SP2. Yes, they understood that it ran fine, but rules are rules. So, we were stuck with a piece of software and Adobe got our money, and we couldn't use the software.

Sigh.

Add to that the many times Adobe "fixed" things that weren't broken, removed useful features, etc. and no wonder we don't trust that ol' Cloud Feeling they're trying to sell us.

If you want ONLY Audition, it is 19.95 per month... or $240 per year.

$49.95 per months is for The Whole Enchilada! For that you also get Photoshop and Premiere(for video) and the heavy-duty Acrobat and DreamWeaver to do websites and another 15 or 20 programs. Useless if you don't have an interest in those other programs.

But here is how this subject came up in the first place: If you now own any ONE CS6 production you can buy the first year of the full package for 19.95 a month instead of 49.95 a month.

I think what bugs me most of all is the growing movement to stop us owning anything and making everything a license deal. We've seen it creep into software where you no longer can buy the physical media, video games are going through the traumas of separating themselves from a physical purchase... even electronic versions of book (which often cost more than the "real" books). There are constant battles through the courts (at least, here in the US) where the right of first sale is being challenged every day with software, books, games, movies etc all being set up for a simple license deal to the original buyer only... soon (if the media world has its way) I won't be allowed to sell (or transfer the license to) anything that I supposedly own.

Personally, I want to purchase something, use it, and then have the option to sell it as, when and where I please if it no longer suits my requirements. If the industry gets away with it, soon all sales of used books, CDs, DVDs, games etc. will be illegal under draconian copyright laws. Making software only available by subscription is a back-door to killing personal ownership options and any rights that may still afford.
