Ok...so SCN now isn't playing nicely (booo!) but ipDTL is still working. Or, at least it is for me and others I know (so far). I did see one talent post on FB that it completely melted down for him last night and wouldn't load up.
I will defer to those of you who are far more tech savvy, but ipDTL has some clever people working for them, so maybe (?) they could pull off the all-in-one browser aspect...and maybe that would be the step that gave ipDTL the greater security to make it more acceptable to the industry? Maybe?
The elephant in the room still is what Skype does. It's their move. And yeah, I don't trust Google at all.
Today I got called to do a rush job.
Can we do Skype? No. Couldn't Skype in the building where the director (documentary) was at the time.
Told him quickly about ipDTL. He was game for it.
But, no, he only had Firefox on his laptop.
So, we did speakerphone resting on the script stand. Wickedly high tech. Worked a charm...he never stepped on my lines. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Yep, the Google motto, "Do No Harm" was harmed to the point of annihilation some time ago. Frikkin' shame.
When you get to be so big that one hand doesn't always know what the other hundred hands are doing, and when you get so rich and megalomanical that your M.O. is "more, more, more!", morals and ethics start to go out the window.

Just did a test with Kevin Leach from ipDTL. It does work. Works like a charm, and Chrome has nothing to do with it. Rock solid for a half hour even though I was using WiFi.
To login (and this is a bit different than it had been, admittedly)
Click the link tab in the top right
Add the person's name
Then connect in the left box and click on the green bar. When it goes red, you're on.
If Chrome ever did mess up ipDTL, they could build their own Chromium browser, since it's Open Source. I'm still waiting for the OP to explain why he heard this was an issue in the first place. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I thought this was fairly self explanatory with my original post but perhaps we need to revisit. The post was to alert users of the SCN and ipDTL that there MAY...I repeat MAY be an issue with the Chrome platform. I didn't say WILL or WOULD. A few folks I know who do happen to use both did encounter difficulties relating , we assume, to the ever changing nature of the Google platform. I believe you mentioned in your post you had heard of someone who had a "meltdown". Whether it happened to other users several times or several dozen, I don't know ...but it happened.
I don't write code so I can't specifically address the particulars.
It was simply meant as an ADVISORY to alert those who might be affected by it.
Can we move on? |

Yes we can move on. The ipDTL issues have been either user error or computer issues with talents' computers. It has not been Chrome, ipDTL, or the interaction between them in any case. Talked with Kevin Leach about this today, and I know that the people that have had issues had their computer (not Chrome) issues resolved. Session Link Pro has worked just great for me in this period on Chrome too and I've done some sessions to Germany with it. No dropouts and they recorded and used my feed on their end.
SCN is another issue. Has there been a resolution to the issues with SCN? I hope so. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover
