a local car dealership (jaguar!) wanted me to first-person* their ads and endorse the product.
i told the agency querying me that i'd do it as long as i could, indeed, drive a jag so i was credible.
nope.
*not a real verb

DB is correct again. Testimonial/endorsement.
Yeeaars ago. A friend of mine was invovled with the Joe Namath Panty Hose commercial. Remember? Camera started out on a beautiful pair of legs in Hanes Panty hose and worked its way to reveal Joe Willie Namath as wearing the panty hose. "if Hanes can make my legs look good--think what they can do for yours."
That was the ad that caused the Federal Trade Commission to change the endorsement/testimonial rules.....if you endorse it....you gotta really use the product. (only in America)

I'd tell them that your flattered BUT make it a policy not to use your name in ads etc. However if you want you can use my (cat, dog, bird)'s name. That's what I'd do.
