The very same!! The last few years of high school I gave up my Broadway bus pass and walked to 96th and took the M96 and then walked down Park, so I didn't take the M86 that often.
Un freaking believable. |

| Quote: | | My biggest concern is the downward trend in rates from some apparently major players. I also do not like the "bidding" aspect of these sites. While some of the "producers" using them do not know how to set a budget, some of the more experienced producers are using these sites to fish for good talent willing to offer their services at a cut rate. |
A side by side comparative analysis of suggested v/o rates on V123 from August, 2006 , and May, 2007 show this, as just one example:
Radio Commercials :60 (local) $470-700 (8/2006)
(average) $255 (5/2007)
Has anybody read the book, "Who Stole My Cheese?"
I did, and I can see the writing on the wall. _________________ Bobbin Beam

bobbinbeamo,
I've noticed that as well, but I've also noticed that V123 has changed it's approach in that time to push the low cost nature of it's service. This has been translated into lowballing by a lot of clients.
The market is changing, and with the recent stuff bringing VO more to the forefront of people's imaginations compared to, say five years ago combined with places touting the low cost solutions available, it's not surprising.
The question is whether the market will correct itself or simply accept the changes and continue moving. My home market faced this a couple of years back with some studios doing cut rate production and the same for talent fees. The end result from both caused an initial surge in the both talent pool and studios, however it was corrected since with the lowballing the quality really dropped to an unacceptable standard. The market corrected itself since wanted higher quality product from the industry.
Whether or not this will be the case for the online market is anyone's guess. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I look forward to the day they set up filtering , allowing the talent to not accept leads for any job that says its budget is "To be Defined", and allow the talent to filter out leads below a specific dolar amount. Que riduculo!
Hope we don't have to wait too much longer.... At least I thought I heard that was coming. _________________ Bobbin Beam

It took V123 version 2.0 a long time to come out. I would guess the same would go for version 3.0. I think Alex and Company are satisfied with the status quo. They are in the $$$ no matter what.
What bothers me is that now that we have the ability to see if our auditions have been opened or not, I am seeing a huge trend that most do not even get opened! Of course I know that even it it does get opened, it doesn't mean you will get the gig, but if they never open it? Well, thats like hoping to win the $325 million Megamillion Lottery without buying a ticket! |

I see that as well - starting to get a lot of unlistened to auditions again, but remember - getting that email doesn't mean that the client actually listened. They could have just read your proposal, looked at the rate or even deleted your proposal/audition. We really don't know that they actually listened to it. Even if they rate you! _________________ Playing for a living...

I agree...but at least there's some transparency now.
I do not audition for any seeker who has historically opened less than 80% of their submittals. It is rude and calloused and unprofessional for anybody to seek 50 auditions and then not take the time to listen to one hours' worth of our best efforts.
I'm not beating V123's drums, mind you, but there is something theoretically comforting about having a vague cyber-idea of who you are audtioning for.
(I realize that was a very qualified statement, but elsewhere you are just sending your voice bits into the hinterlands, aren't you?) |

i'm getting about the same number of jobs through V123 now as in the past (only 1 or 2 a month) - but i'm doing FAR fewer auditions. so i count that as a plus. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
