is it: Smear-noff or Smir - noff vodka?
once, reading copy for a Smirnoff promotion, the company itself couldn't agree internally on the correct pronunciation.
In the UK, they say "KNOCK-ee-ya", here in the US we say "KNOW-Kee-ya".
We say "Pree-meer" they say "Preh-meer .. _________________ Jeff Berlin

I once recorded a session with a client and he pronounced his own name two different ways.
Sometimes, a pronunciation gets altered for geo-political reasons. The headquarters for the food and beverage company Heublein was located here in Connecticut, The original German pronunciation is Hy-Bline but after one of the world wars it was changed to Hyoo-Bline. Nevertheless, atop one of the local hills is a structure donated to the town by the family and it is still known as "HyBline" tower.
For that matter, there are towns in NH, MA and CT called Berlin and each of them is pronounced with the accent on the first syllable whereas their namesake in Germany (as well as a certain surname?) has the accent on the second syllable. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Fortunately, all the locals here pronounce everything incorrectly so it doesn't matter what the professionals say. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Aaaaaanyway...there's a guy in Indiana / Illinois named Bob Rohrman who has a bunch of dealerships. He's got an Acura location nearby. However, according to him, it's an "akra" dealership.
"Arlington Akra in Palatine" to be precise. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Dave,
Did I ever tell you that my mom worked for the head of Courvoisier, M. Simon, in Paris back in the 40's?

I'd hate to think how they'd have pronounced it you'd stopped for breakfast at Denny's or something in, say, Des Plaines!

That's Dez Plainz, right? But is it Illinoise?
As for 'akra', isn't that some kind of southern vegetable? _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Diane,
That's what they think around here. I don't touch the stuff personally. _________________ Be well,
