Good luck, Deirdre. I hope you derive some value from the workshop and make some good contacts in the process. Sometimes, that can be as valuable (if not more so) than the seminar itslef. Bitchin

Sounds like a pretty good variety of subjects being covered... plus... and a BIG PLUS... where else would you rather spend a weekend, in the dead of Winter?...

That sounds like a total kickDB! Wish I could go. Fraley's a top dawg all the way...I've got one of his CD's and I can tell he's as good an instructor as he is a voice artist. After I get some more equipment purchases I need out of the way I'll be putting a little aside for some seminars with known folk, and he's definitely one I want to attend.

Off the subject...I got The Art Of Voice Acting for Christmas, and on the accompanying CD I find among the example demos a compilation by none other than...wha...DB Cooper?!?!?!!? I know you've mentioned the book in previous threads but don't remember you saying that Alburger selected your demo as one of the examples. Considered the premier book on the subject, and the audio accompaniment features our own Mistress herself. You rock! (I love the Wife Bear spot, it's hilarious)

WOW! Just plain WOW! It would be so awesome to attend a seminar like that, especially just starting out. But alas, without the money, it doesn't happen. And California!! Here I am, sitting in Michigan, it's raining, fixing to change to umpteen inches of snow and cold and Deirdre, you'll be sitting in that lovely California sunshine. Say hello to Hollywood for me!!

Have fun in Hollyweird!!

DB,

I can't wait to see how you liked th seminar and So. Cal. It has been cool and dry, but I am sure wamer than your neck of the woods. San Diego is just a couple hour drive. (Too far for audtions with multile call backs.)

Pat invited me, actually.

Yes the weather was grand. A bit chilly in the mornings-! I was glad I brought my jacket.

Hollywood was stunning and I got a $65 parking ticket for being a confused out-of-towner. NO STOPPING except Sundays combined with NO PARKING 7am TO 7pm made me think I could park there on an early Sunday morning--- call me crazy!

The workshop was excellent! There was a mixed bag of talent -- it ran the spectrum from "having some ability" to "freakin' awesome". Vanessa Marshall was there as a student!

Here's how it went:
We all were given a workbook, specific to this class. For each accent, Pat led us all through a "one-sheet" as he calls them-- a breakdown of sound comparisons with "Standard American" as the baseline.
He had written scripts which were in the book (our "Hymnals") and Kimberly Breault would cast each 3-person "scene". We'd all rehearse for about 10 minutes and then record our scenes. Go through it once, get direction for mechanics and lilt and then record again.

We'll receive a CD with the whole day's work in about 10 days.
Larry Moss directed the German round. The guy is so sweet and soft-- he's one of those people who can very easily make you better than you are.

And here's Pat and me. We obviously got the "wear your black-framed glasses" memo.

A grand time and I'm glad to be home, although honestly I can hardly wait to have an excuse to go back out to LA.

Whoa - a $65 parking ticket??? And I complain about the $30 ones we have here.

Welcome back - glad the workshop was worthwhile. You'll have to post a demo showing off your newly acquired expertise.

You are lucky it wasn't a disabled parking spot -- ticket's over $300 here in San Diego.
