While I was working for "the man" at a major corporation, I did a week long multi-stop cross country trip that ended up being First Class every leg - except one. It is AMAZING how spoiled you can get so quickly. That one leg in coach after all that room and service was barely tolerable.

Reminiscent of the time I took the 2nd Class Bus through Mexico at Christmas. OK - I'm exaggerating. But I swore that I would fly first class the next time - HA!

(But I do bump up to Business Class whenever possible.)

Yo September..... U get to fly first class to LA non stop??? Oh Honey....go for it and enjoy it. I've been in coach too often directly behind the first class cabin. I get jealous every time I fly. Even if you don't get champaigne, shrimp, caviare, and a temper-pedic bed... you'll get a flight worth the time. Once you experience the trip, do tell. I would love to hear the 411.

A serious post:
I have been an occasional first class flier for years -- and I must say what passes for first class has degraded significantly over the years -- but it is still far superior to riding in coach.
Here are the advantages....
--First class check in -- usually no one ahead in a line to check your bags and get a boarding pass.
--board first -- and since your seat is in the front cabin, no waiting to get to your seat -- and if you have a jacket (probably won't in August) they'll hang it up for you.
--You get to order a drink while you wait to take off.
and unlimited alcohol as long as you are in the air at no extra charge.
--Seats are more spacious and usually the entertainment system is superior.
--There's food (none in coach is often the rule) but the food is NOT as good as it used to be.
Once you get off the flight, everyone is equal at the baggage carrosel.
as far as dress goes, these days people seem to feel fine dressing like slobs anywhere -- broadway shows, nice restaurants and first class in airliners.
Here's what's missing that used to be routine:
They used to hand you a kit with toothbrush, eye covers, little booties and lotions. No more.
On some airliners, they'd bake cookies and even if you didn't eat them, the aroma was fabulous a half hour before the plane landed.
They used to serve food with real dishes and real glass and real silverware... now, security prohibits that -- plastic and paper plates.
I flew Delta first class from NY to Albuquerque recently. Since there are no direct flights and each leg was under 3 hours, there was NO FOOD in first class on either flight!!!
Bottom line -- enjoy it Ember. No one in the foward cabin deserves to be there more than you do.
And have a great time at Voice.

Actually I've been on a bunch of them over the years. I spent the entire '80's living in Mexico City and for the first few years I got a kick out of just going places - where ever - traveling however "el pueblo" traveled. I went to Gto. a couple of times on them. Also to Tuxpan. Unintentionally ended up in Catemaco once when the bus I thought paralleled the first class bus... didn't. That was interesting. I started to get wary about them when they started going into the barrancas more frequently and then I was cured of (3rd class I guess?) travel when I was seated behind the driver on a night trip to Acapulco and we made it there from Mexico City in just over 4 hours. (That was on the old road - it usually took more than 6 hours) That was it. First class buses from then on in.

I took my mother to San Miguel a few years ago. Hadn't been there since the '80's. What a change! So many gringos!!! I actually think I saw a sign that said 'se habla español.

1st class boils down to ... bigger seats and more attention.
I know that the restrooms are small, but I'm told that some flights WILL have a valet in the 1st class restrooms. When they hand you a towel... just smile and say, "Thank you."
But above all... never... never tell them that you got an upgrade! They'll still treat you good, but they WILL resent you being there. I'm NOT saying they will spit in your drink... but watch your back.
