We're running PCs here and I'm looking for advice or suggestions from any of you. We're 'puter literate and audio engineers and all but it's been years since we've bought a computer. My current recording 'puter is giving me a hard time. I'll be putting my mia midi into whatever I get, using sound forge and audition, source connect and doing some production work so their needs to be room for my audio and music files. Otherwise, I'll be keeping it clean, just using it for audio.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Are you looking for something off-the-shelf, or are you looking to "roll your own?"

Just make sure whatever you buy/build has the correct slot for the Mia card.

What sort of trouble is your old machine giving you?

Mandy,

I have been very happy with my Dell Precision T3400 workstation. It's whisper quiet and solid as a rock.

Yeah, what Bob said. We have ten Dell workstations in the server room at the radio station where I engineer. With all of them running, they make less noise than the single workstation in my home studio (which is kept in a separate room).

One word of advice that applies to any factory built PC. As soon as you set it up, take the OS install disk they give you (or access the hidden partition on the system drive) and promptly re-install the OS. The flash installs they do at the factory aren't always perfect, and when they're not, the system can exhibit some squirrelly and unpredictable behavior. Simply doing a completely fresh install will take care of this. At least that's been my experience.

Thanks for the replies! We are still trying to figure out what to do but I'm VERY grateful for all of the input.
