...for getting me to drink the "sound absorption" Kool Aid.
Since swapping out my foam for some sound-absorbing 4-inch ATS Acoustics
panels in my 4X4 Whisper Room, my recordings have been largely cured of the heavy low end, exaggerated plasives, and boxiness (especially with my 416)
Thanks, Mike! (and Dan-O who also shared some of his acoustical knowledge)
Just more reasons why I am so fond of this place.... |

Rob,
Thank you very much for the kind words.
I'm very happy it all worked out for you.
Absorption is one of the most important treatments in every major studio. So if you want professional results you need to do what the pros do.
If anyone needs or want's help PM me.
Rob, let's hear some before and after samples. _________________ The Blog:

Acoustics are counter-intuitive. If one thing is certain about acoustics, it is that if anything seems obvious it is probably wrong. |

I have to jump on the band wagon, too. A big thank you to Mike and George Whitman. I purchased a few panels from the site George recommended, ATS. They made a huge difference. It's amazing the vo-bb has been around over five years and not until these recent discussions has the importance of absorption been brought up. |

I'll second that! Mike helped me massively back end of last year. One of nature's gentlemen.
It's true that my 416 sounds sooooo much better too. I'd pretty much given up on it til I uprated the absorbtion and bass trapping. The strange thing is that the 416 is known to be a mic that is forgiving of less than perfect rooms due to the highly directional capsule. What they don't tell you is this; put the 416 in a moderately good room and it's revealed for the truly stellar v/o mic that it is.
Glad you're happy too Lance

I need to jump in and say thanks, also. I built a whisper room this summer, filled it with foam ... and was sorely disappointed by the sound. Back to the VO-BB for more reading, really paying attention to Mike's and George's posts.
I ended up pulling some foam and replacing with 703 from ATS and it made a HUGE difference. Now I'm happy!
So thanks guys. I'd have been completely lost without the information that you post here.
And, really, thanks to all the members here, and DB for hosting us. Reading this forum is like attending a massively advanced voiceover class. Plus it's free and constantly updated. _________________ Bob Ransom

Let me add my tritto to this confab. I was beside myself trying to get a decent sound from a U87 (I KNOW!) until Mr. Souer (the lemon kind) advised me on the 703 & 705. Used DB's link to find the stuff and I now have fish traps in my corners and panels in front of the mic. Still waiting to hang the ones from the ceiling but what a difference it's made! Huzzah for this site! _________________ Pam Tierney
