how doya say: $0.0036 cents
I want to say zero zero three six cents but perhaps it should be point zero zero three six cents? I'm trying to get this out the door ASAP and they've given me a ton of flexibility but this would just be a stupidity thing if I say it wrong. Thought I'd turn to those I trust (and I'm not afraid to look stupid in front of). _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Bob, again, thanks. That's what I went with and they've already fallen in love. Sigh, guess I'll cut you a check for thirty-six thousanths of a cent, or would rather that came through paypal? _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Mandy,
You're welcome and the advice if free! (Not to mention the PayPal fees would be way more than 36/1000ths of the cent.) _________________ Be well,

Either the dollar sign or the word "cents" is superfluous. They can't both be there because they contradict each other.
With the dollar sign only, I would read it "point 36 cents." With the word "cents" only, I would read it as Bob suggests, "36 thousanths of a cent" or "36 thousanths cent." The two amounts differ by a factor of 100 and you need to find out which one the client intended it to be, _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

"Just over a third of a cent" if you're paying attention to $ sign.
If it's 0.0036 cents then it's "one Abe Lincoln's beard worth of a penny", to coin a phrase.
Numismatically yours,

No. Has it come up elsewhere? I don't think this client went P2P but who knows? I'm not on any P2Ps now. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Isn't 0.0036 equal to 36-ten-thousandths, not 36-thousandths? (See http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/57113.html)
0.36 = 36 hundredths
0.036 = 36 thousandths
0.0036 = 36 ten-thousandths
As Lee mentioned, there's confusion involving the use of both the dollar sign and the word "cents." I guess it's the financial version of the greengrocer's apostrophe. Usually when I see something like "$0.10 cents" they mean 10 cents. In that case, $0.0036 in cents would be 0.36 cents, or "36-hundredths of a cent," which I think would be the most audibly comprehensible way to say it.
If in fact the dollar sign is what doesn't belong, it should be "36-ten-thousandths of a cent." _________________ Peter Katt
