I have just updated my computer to Windows 7. I have been running on Pro Tools LE7, but it will not play on windows 7. Does anyone have ideas how to get them to work together? I know I can get it to work with pro tools 8, but 1) I can't afford it, and 2) I am not using most of the pro tools facilities available on LE7, so why pay for a new version with a lot more facilities I won't use.
Any help most gratefully recieved |

Your not gonna get Windows 7 to work with your older version of ProTools...Digidesign released version 8.03 beta as the only supported version to work with Windows 7
You could afford to upgrade your computer to Windows 7, so why couldn't you afford to upgrade your ProTools software.?? I'm not following you.
In your lifetime, you will probably only use 60% of ANY version of software...that's just the way things are. For the most part, with a new version of software (again, I say for the most part) a new version of software is a lot more than just new features and extra added stuff. New versions of software are normally improved versions that are designed to run better and more efficiently, and the idea is they try to work the bugs out. So that's really what you pay for with a new version of software. |

truth to tell, this computer is shared with my wife - she uses it for her business. I have not done any voice work for nearly a year, so my financial input is slight. I don't know about your area, but in UK pensions are meagre, so money is tight for us pensioners! |

I hear ya, man...I know about tight money
Windows 7, in certain versions, allows for an XP mode, which would allow you to boot your ProTools 7 version within Win 7 |

Pro Tools may not be the best way for you to go, in your case.
I'd sell it and get something simpler to use and that is Windows 7 compatible.
Using Pro Tools on a computer shared with someone else is just asking for headache. It doesn't like to play well with others.
Try Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio 9 for $55 USD. It's very easy to learn and use, works with any audio interface, and will get your recordings sent off much faster. I recommend something from M-Audio like Fast Track or Mobile-Pre, they are up to speed with Windows 7. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Don't worry, what my wife does doesn't impinge on pro tools at all. the only problem with changing programs is that I have some retakes to do on recordings done on pro tools when I was running windows XP. Is that likely to present problems, especially as I need to use my Mbox to connect the mic( no xlr socket on my computer). No, I am not going to change the mic as well as it works well with my voice, but I may not be able to work it with a usb connection. Hey ho, life is complicated.
