I just got this email from a major voice talent I hired a couple of years ago. It came in non-HTML script so it was jaggedy and strangely punctuated:

Quote:
Hi, Bruce Miles VO.

Happy New Year!

I thought I'd drop you a quick line.

I hadn't heard from you since last year and wondered if you might be needing any voice over work done in the near future.

I am also actively cleaning out my online account database on my website as I do at the beginning of each year. If you don‚t believe you‚ll have a need for my services this year, please let me know so that I can clear you out of the database and you won‚t get what some may perceive as spam, like this email.

Do you need anything? Or shall I omit you from the database?

Looking forward to hearing from you either way∑.

(Name)
(email addy)
(URL)
(Phone)

Thank you and have a great day!

Is it me, or is this not an example of best foot forward?

B

It reminds me of when I'd get a catalog from J.C. Whitney or DAK along with a note "threatening" to stop sending me their crap if I didn't buy something.

That sigma character at the end is secret code, hypnotizing you into thinking the sender is still a "major voice talent".

I don't hire voice talent and I get a half dozen or so similar emails each year. Ejits (I like the term Phillip).

Part of me says to write back and say, "I have no intention of using you this year, or any other year for that matter; so by all means remove me from your database. How could I possible refuse such an attractive offer!"

The only real downside is that you won't get to see the look on his face.

He's not really "burning" his bridges...
He's just offering to burn the bridge... if you're never going to use it to get to him.
If you don't respond... he may think you've already torched the bridge.

It's interesting that we all assume it's a "him". It's actually one of the country's most highly marketed females....(oops, I may have given their identity away)...

I'm curious if you changed the second to last word.

Second to last word of what? Their letter?

Bruce—I guess we all assume a female takes more care with correspondence. Apparently I have no idea how important this person is, and therefore can't be bothered.

"Hi, Bruce Miles VO."

"Hi to you, Miss Mail Merge"

I copied it intact, changing only the contact info to mask it.
