|
|
Wondering if anyone who is use to working with a JK Audio AutoHybrid (or maybe any other phone patch) can help.
My phone patch works fine but I always have to record the other party on my computer. What I need to do is have the option of either recording them or not, while still being able to hear them..and have them hear me....while I record the script into the computer. If I bring down the channel the phone patch is on I cannot hear them at all. If this is impossible I'll have to go the old route of plugging a headset into the cordless phone. Anyone's help is appreciated. I go into a Mackie 1402-VLZ pro board. Thanks!

Glenn,
Route the audio from the Phone patch to an Aux input rather than a line-in. Then if you do need to record them, route the Aux audio to the mains as well as to the headphones. Otherwise, leave the Aux input to the headphones only. I hope this helps. _________________ Be well,

Alternate set up.
Mixer 2 track out to recorder
Your mic to left AND aux feed to hybrid in / send.
Hybrid out to input and panned right.
If you want to record phone, record stereo.
If you don't need them, record mono - left.
You will hear yourself in left headphone and them in right.
If you are NOT recording them, you may want to pull their fader down some while you actually record so as not to be distracted by noise from their end.
Having them in one ear and not both helps the brain keep track of what's going on. In my studio, the engineer talk back goes to one ear, the producer/director goes to the other. I have not found any talent that didn't like that separation. |

Thanks Bob and Sounddguy. I will give those a try tomorrow. IN the meantime let me give you my entire setup to give you a clearer picture of what I got...
Mic into Processor and Processor out to Line IN on Channel 1 on Mackie 1402-VLZ pro..
Main Outs on Mackie to Line INs of Presonus firebox. Presonus firebox firewire out to computer.
Main Outs on the Presonus Firebox to Alesis Studio Monitors which I rarely use. I usually just plug headphones into the presonus to hear playback.
For the JKAudio Autohybrid it goes like this....on the back of the unit XLR SEND to 1/4 inch Line IN on Channel 2 of Mackie board...AND...XLR CALLER to AUX SEND 1 on Mackie board............RJ11 PHONE jack (on back of Autohybrid still) to a telephone........and finally RJ11 LINE (on back of Hybrid still) to the jack input on the wall.
I also have to have the SOLO button on the Mackie 1402-VLZ Pro for CHANNEL 1 AND 2 pushed in so I can hear the caller and they can hear me and we both record. I listen through headphones from the Mackie and can control the output on the CTL ROOM/Submix slider.
Bob, I don't see AUX inputs on the Mackie 1402-VLZ Pro, just Stereo AUX Return and Send. When I tried one of those I got nothing from the caller (wife) in my head phones. Sounddguy your scenario might work and I'll give it a shot tomorrow. If you guys or anyone else has a similar setup or another Scenario since you have my setup let me know. It's been a few months since I have had to use Phone patch at all and I will need it soon. I appreciate you guys' help. Thanks!!

Here's my take on using a phone patch with your mixer. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I will muddy the waters here I'm sure, but this works perfectly for me.
I have Pre-Fade Aux Send going to the transmit (send) on the patch with my aux 1 knob for the mic turned up enough to be comfortable to the caller. The receive from the patch goes to a line-in on the board and potted up to record the caller. If I only want to hear the caller, then I put the caller pot in mute (on my board it is also ALT 3/4) and send ALT 3/4 to my control room monitors, that way the caller audio does not go to the main outs.
I can also send audio down the phone line for the caller just by turning up the audio pot Pre Fade knob so they can hear it.
EDIT: What George said basically (that's what i get for not reading first) _________________ Does life start at 40? |

thanks for the help everyone. This was a pretty easy fix when I started reading all of your suggestions. I ended up just pressing in the ALT 3-4 button on the CR Source panel and then muting Channel 2 which my phone hybrid is on. I can also do it pressing the Solo buttons on both Channel 1 and 2 and potting the hybrid fader down. My headphones are pretty tight so I don't have to worry about the callers audio feeding back into the mic if they decide to talk. Tested it all out tonight while doing a spot. Thanks again everyone.
