'Client sends me a monster project all wrapped up in a . t file. (Power Point)
That's fine: split screen...graphics and some words to be displayed in the top half....and my narration script in the bottom half.
But, how to do a word count without copying and pasting everything into Word, and NOT counting the words in the "display" half of the presentation?
'Just haven't encountered that one.
Thanks in advance,

Dave....
Some versions of Powerpoint (mine is from Office 2004 for Mac) offer a word count here:
File --> Properties --> Statistics
But in the test I just did, it appears that this word count includes not only text in the slides, but that which is found on notes pages, as well. I mention the notes pages because, in 90% of the Powerpoint scripts I do, the slides are strictly visuals and the notes pages contain the narration.
Maybe, if Microsoft is aware of the issue, a future release of Powerpoint will provide the option to select whether a word count is derived from slides or notes. _________________ Mike

Thanks, Mike...I'll play with it some more... maybe, if I'm lucky... the clients conceived the copy on Word, and ported it over... meaning THEY may have a word count.
So, how much do I trust THEM? heh

Don't forget— transferring a T file to a usable, readable file is a prep cost. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

We would certainly think so. I once did a job that, after accepting it, I learned the script was in the form of a web-based slide show. That would've been fine, perhaps, if I had the luxury of reading from a monitor. But you can't go to a web-based slide show and say 'Print all slides.' When I told the production company I needed to charge a fee for the time required to call each slide (web page) up and send it to the printer, the client was suddenly able to come up with a printed version of the script.
Technology is great... unless it's in the wrong hands! _________________ Mike
