A simple job. 1 30 second TV commercial for BUPA Worldwide, a health insurance provider. Session started at 3pm UK time, 10am Miami WCBATSUOT (We can't be assed to show up on time).
Every single person present for the session was delightful. The commercial has a strong picture signature, memorable musical signature so all I had to do was play the friendly guide. After several takes with the usual "Emphasise this, sell that" type of direction the team from the ad agency asked if I would do one the way I felt it should sound, just emphasise the points I saw needed lifting.
Up until the change of direction (moment of humour there) we had been recording dry.
"Mike, this time would you play the music to me please? I'll take my own cue" Mike was happy to oblige and we recorded another version. Mike asked me to wait.
"Philip, once more please" said Mike. I did the same again.
I waited about 5 minutes and then I heard excited voices over the talkback.
"We love it, thank you so much!"
Directing me is not a privilege it's a PRESUMPTION ....... Trust me! I know what I'm doing or more likely, every so often I jus' up an' git lucky. |

Hopefully they've learned their lesson and next time they'll send you the copy with a note saying: "Do what you do best and send it back when your done". We will be out at Starbucks trying to stay out of trouble. |
