If my mic goes phut it would take a while to get another delivered so I finally got around to buying a "stunt mic". It makes no financial sense to have a U87 gathering dust so I found a mic going cheap and knew it would work fine.
Have a listen ...any idea? http://thecorporatevoice.com/stunt.wav |

I'll play---To me the C1 does sound an lot like a U87--
What's a "stunt mic" ? One that gets thrown through plate glass windows and off tall buildings? |

Or used by Jazz in the absence of a suitable stick. |

I thought you'd settled on a 416 for that task (substitute stick, not mic).

I just made a similar recent purchase. I wanted a cheap mic that I could put in front of sources I wouldn't dare use my good ones. And if it gets blown up, hit with a stray drum stick, or ends up where a microphone doesn't belong, it's no big loss.
It's an MXL 990 I picked up for $30.00 used. Then I found out about some modifications I could make to it to improve the sound. I spent less than five bucks on parts and it took less than an hour to hack it.
Does it sound like a U87? Not a chance! But it's good enough for gubmint work! |

It's either the TLM 102 (like those waaaay better than the 103) or it's a Studio Projects mic - B1? CS1 or CS5? Or...I have no idea!
Either way, it gits er' done.
I'm a Studio Projects man now - plug one into a nice preamp and you're good to go.
Thanks for the clip - looking forward to finding out the identity of this one. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Sounds fine to me, but us Americans are always wowed by that unattainable British accent.
Still am baffled by attempting to evaluate a mic on a pair of (decent) external computer speakers though.
For what it's worth I just purchased a new "road" mic that would take the bumps and bruises of travel better: a Shure SM27. I'm very please with it.

I listen using a pair of Alesis M1Active520 Studio reference monitors. They have added additionals in order reference my referencing in a studio monitoring sense. I suspect they have 520 somethings but I have no idea what those somethings are. |

Those monitors have three EQ switches in the back; if there's one that is for around 500Hz it's nice to turn it down about -2 to -4db if your speakers are backed up to a wall because that frequency can get over pronounced in such a set up. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover
