Something is in the wind, I'm working on two film projects and a textbook that I was talking about two years ago just got the green light.

Are people spending money again already?

Coooool...

If the past month was any indication, I'd have to agree.

I'm always amazed at the doom and gloomers who come out of the wood work to pooh pooh good news, and it doesn't matter who's in the White House. Unemployment dropped last month from 10% to 9.7%, a very heartening sign. But the nattering nabobs of negativism said, "but that doesn't account for all the people who stopped looking for work....you're not taking them into consideration." Well yes, but there are always people who stop looking, and those who start looking again, and those who get underground work that isn't counted....I mean since day one.* There's no good way to count these folks. No one calls in to a federal office and says (in their best Monty Pythonic voice) "I've stopped looking now.....I'm not dead yet, but I've stopped looking. I'll ring you up when I start again."

I also couldn't believe the sternness in tone when newscasters recently announced "20,000 people lost their jobs last month." True, but that sure beats the 700,000 who lost their jobs a year ago last month! And for some mathematical reality...I don't have the exact figures for this past month but I've seen them for other recent months and when we lose 20,000 jobs it means something like 3,220,000 lost their jobs and 3,200,000 got jobs last month. Lots of people are being hired every day! Not always for better paying jobs, I know, but still there's lots of positive news and less disheartening news happening all over the place, and as I'm a firm believer that the Economy is largely a state of mind, we should revel in the positive and downplay the unnecessary negative.

I'm off the soapbox now.

*I personally know of several people laid off people who've started their own freelance business at home including quite a few on this board, and there's no mechanism to show them transitioning from unemployed to employed...they're not counted.

I would just like to add, in the words of Rodney Dangerfield, "I've been out of work so long, I forget what kind of work I'm out of." Shocked

Doom and gloom leads to a decline in consumer confidence which fuels the downward spiral. The news media loves gloom which perpeuates the negativity of the masses and does more harm.

One sign of an improving economy is that many of my clients are actually paying their bills, some of them on time, Rolls Eyes
