I was wondering how you and others up the coast were weathering the storm. Do you have a wood burning stove? Glad you now have a generator. You've now become the "Go to neigbor" during the future outages. Party at DB's...BYOB. Wink

I don't usually pay attention to the weather so I didn't know anything was coming... anyway, we were woken at five-thirty by an automated phone call telling us that the schools were closed (no school-aged kids, but my better half's a teacher). I spent a couple of hours manually digging out enough so I could get out to Lowe's to buy a new drive belt for the blower... it broke last time and I thought we were done with snow! Finished off the drive with the machine once I'd fixed it.

The biggest upset was the fact that my dbx286a was due to arrive today. The tracking told me that it went on the truck at six this morning... but FedEx called a snow day as well! Look, if I can get to Lowe's, then... Dammit

I gotta wait 'til Monday for my new toy now... Cry

I feel almost guilty. The people to the south of me, in NY and environs, got a couple of feet of snow. Meanwhile, the people to the north of me, up in New Hampshire and down in Maine, got tree-snappin', power-outtin' heavy stuff. And here in my neck of Connecticut, we just got a couple of days of heavy rain and a little snow that didn't amount to much.

I am expecting a piece of equipment to be delivered by UPS and according to the online tracking it is currently stuck in Secaucus, NJ due to inclement weather. I need to sign for it so I hope it gets here by Tuesday because I'm getting on a place to Florida on Wednesday.

Deirdre,

I'm so glad your power is back on AND that you now have a generator to deal with the next outage.

(edited to fix typo)

Of course now that you bought the generator you won't have a power outage or a need for it for years to come. But then I guess it will have served its purpose after all.

That's what got me into trouble with (not) replacing the snow blower belt with the appropriate sense of urgency... I thought we were done with all the cold white stuff. Yeah Right!!!

Time for a cliché... Better to have and not need, than to need and not have. Uncertain

Ordinarily, that corollary of Murphy's Law would be true. but where she is, she'll get her money's worth.

My mother, who lives in the same town as Moe, lost her power and spent Saturday at my brother's house. He lives just down the road from Dierdre and usually gets his juice restored quickly because he lives on the same spit of land where the Naval Shipyard is, and that facility is near the top of the "get-it-fixed" list. I'm not sure if he ever lost power this time.

My mother is back home but I don't know if the grid is back up or not. The retirement community where she lives brought in a couple of generators.

JUST got power back on around 1:00 this afternoon. Lost it around 11:00PM on Thursday. We had 90 mile an hour winds and crazy rain - it was insane the amount of downed trees and the damage.

Kids and I took some amazing pics on Friday- once I get the rest of life back in order (and catch up on some work) I'll post some pictures.

Nice to be back in the 21st Century. Someone was saying "It's interesting how much we've come to depend on electricity and the computer....how our worlds turn upside down when we can't access the computer". I responded with "Well, yay, most of my friends and ALL of my clients are in there!"

Diane,

We do have plenty of winter here in the East. How bad can it be?
