I'm about to take to the skies for some warmth and sunshine. I'll be taking a few recording necessities and other electronic goodies with me.
I'll have a laptop computer, a MicPort Pro, an EV PL-10 mic (RE-20 Junior)and tabletop mic stand, a couple of cell phones with their charging cords, a TomTom GPS with bracket and its power cord, plus my shirt-pocket digital camera.
My current thinking is to pack the mic and mike stand in my suitcase and throw everything else into the computer bag, which I intend to carry on to the plane with me. Does this make sense? Or should I also add the mic, the stand, or both to my carry-on stuff? Or should I toss some of the cables and such into my checked bag.
I'm not as concerned with the convenience/inconvenience of lugging it around as much as the potential hassles of dealing with TSA baggage screeners. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I always pack all the cables and anything not particularly fragile, like my mic stand, in my checked luggage. Fragile things, especially if they're unusual and not commonly found in luggage, like microphones, go in my carry-on.

like microphones? So what else are you carrying around that's unusual and not commonly found in luggage? Hmm? _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

I always carry on my mic. You ever see how they chuck bags around at airports? _________________ Moe Egan

I carry on everything recording related. The mic stand has caused me an issue or two with security- but once they see it they are fine. Everything fits in 2 bags (including my camera if I only take 1 lens). One is a backpack that goes under the seat, the other is a small rolling bag. _________________ Threadjackers local 420
