Does anyone have any recommendations of a good, not God-awfully-expensive voiceover studio in the Ft. Lauderdale area? I've got to spend a couple weeks there for my day job and wanted to have something lined up.
Thanks...

I can tell you what's not a good studio in Fort Lauderdale: a portable recording setup in a room at the Ramada Inn Airport & Cruise Port. The walls are paper thin. When someone three doors down flushes the toilet, it sounds like someone opened a fire hose in my room. And during the day, a plane takes off or lands at the nearby airport about every 3 minutes.
The main reason I packed a mic and my Micport Pro along with the laptop is one client who wanted to record last week wasn't ready to roll before I came down here and I wanted to be able to accomodate her if she needed me. Fortunately, the folks at Disney are taking forever to approve her copy, so I will probably be back home before she gets the thumbs-up.
But as long as I have my recording gear handy, I have been able to knock out a few auditions in between the take-offs and landings. Note to self: next time, book a hotel a little closer to town and farther from the flight path. But what the hell; I'm not here to work, I'm here on vacation. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Hey, Lee,
I think I've had that room before in another hotel. I usually end up with the guy next door that goes to sleep with Sports Center on high volume. Or the non-English speaking couple that spends half the night screaming at one another.
I'll have my portable setup with me, and I'l be in a better hotel, but I find that no matter what I do, it still doesn't sound all that hot. I was in San Francisco a couple weeks ago and while I was in a nice hotel I just couldn't block out the downtown sounds no matter what kind of pillow and blanket fort I built. In the end, it was good enough for auditions. Or so I told myself.
Anyhow, have fun on vacation.
Brian — I think Caryn is in Ft. Myers which is the other side of the state? I'll have to check.
Thanks,

DOH! I really need to learn to drink a cup of coffee before I post in the mornings. You're right.
Somebody I know is in Ft. Lauderdale. If I can think of who it is I'll ask them to contact you. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

I am in Fort Myers... the other side. Doug Turkel is in Miami. I bet he could direct you to a couple. I think he told me about one in Hollywood once (which is close enough to FTL), but I don't recall the name or have the info, I don't think. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Thanks, Caryn! I'll check with Doug and see if he can suggest someplace.
