I've got a new demo I'd like some feedback on.
Thanks in advance.

Now that sounds more like a demo should sound. You clearly have some talent worth marketing.
A few notes if I may?
It would behoove you (I love using that word) to work on the sound absorption in your recording space. I can hear your voice bouncing off the walls in almost every selection.
I wouldn't start with a personal testimonial type read. Instead a warm and friendly commercial read like you have later in the demo. I also wouldn't make a downer about death in the family a second read. Personally, I wouldn't use a downer anywhere in a demo, but if I did I'd put it near the end.
Lastly, I'm in the camp that says don't use a photo with your demo*. Your mother loves your looks and there are thousands of women (and men too I'm sure) who would find you attractive, but anonymity is our friend in this business. Give little else but your voice and delivery technique for a client to judge you by. Let them imagine what you look like.
Light years of difference from your first offering here.

Thank you, Bruce! I appreciate the feedback. Funny thing about this demo is that it was done about 9 years ago at a professional recording studio in Green Bay right after I moved here...in a cool booth and everything. Perhaps I'll record the lines in my current recording "situation" and we can compare the sound. Also, the placement was not up to me...and I was agreeing with you as I read your comments. Your feedback about the placement of the selections was something I've been dying to hear for awhile! Any OTHER suggestions about WHAT should go WHERE on a demo?
Thanks again for the feedback! |
