Hey Folks,

In the world of animation and anime I don't feel that I'm doing well with auditions these days, especially female roles since I've gotten so used to doing little boy and unisex roles. I'm not sure I can recall what its like to be a girl anymore, well, that and the fact that I need to broaden my voice range plain and simple.

Today I auditioned for a show that had lots of girl characters and I feel that I did a terrible job reading the lines.
I understand we all have to train and believe me I do workshops, warm-ups, and so on. But maybe I need a different kind of training to help with acting female roles all over again. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me with my dilemma?

Mary

Spend time with girls, lots of girls, on video or best of all, in person. Is there a children's theater performing near you, or a school play that features lots of girls? Volunteer to read at a nearby school; that can be kind of a one way activity unless you can come up with a little question time and elicit the girls' (and boys') thoughts on a particular story. Can you volunteer for a while to help with a troop of Bluebirds or Girl Scouts or the like? Belong to a church? Help with or see if you can just observe Sunday school a couple of days. Hang out at a public playground when it's crowded (just don't wear a trench coat). How about the doll section of a busy toy store or toy section at Walmart? For older girls there's always the food court at the mall.

Quick fix. Stop thinking, stop trying, get over yourself in terms of I ARE AN AHKTAH. See the situation and react to it using the words supplied.

TEST -
1 Philip has just called you a talentless b*tch
Script "Thank you. I love you too"

2 Philip has just asked you to marry him

3 Philip has just shot you after agreeing to let you go free in return for secret information
