Just saw a promo that on tomorrow morning's program: VOICEOVERS: Nancy Giles gives a shout-out to the unseen actors and announcers of movies, radio, the Internet and, of course, TV.
Check your local listings... That is all. |

INTRO - You hear them everywhere, on movie trailers, telling you about your favourite TV show, selling you everything from soap to soaps, cars to car racing. Across the country we're all being bored sh*tless by Voice over actors and stories about the faces behind the unknown voices. If you meet one at a party you'll know. How? Withing 5 seconds they'll tell you what they do. Karen Yip went to Pitominga in southern Virginia to meet former radio talent and now prolific voice over Bob Ass (RUN VT) |

We'll just see if they are REALLY voice talent...if they're not on this board then they must be pretenders!

Not fair, Philip. You cheated. That's the intro from the last time one of these stories aired.
Oh, okay, it's the intro every time one of these stories airs.... |

Is it just me, or do I detect a distant Freudian comparisan?

I'll be watching this Sunday... with pencil and paper in hand... writing down the names of all my VO-BB peeps that will be interviewed.

His character is an LA actor who primarily does VO work, and uses a commercial VO tag as a pick-up line in a bar. I don't want to spoil one of the funnier moments that happens later in the film, but I'll just say it involves the same tag line.
For a film described as a "comedy" it was fairly slow and boring up until halfway through, but I got a nice little chuckle out of the VO reference. _________________ Publisher: Voice Actors in the News

I'm hoping someone records it and posts it somewhere. CBS Sunday Morning only posts video of a small number of their stories each week, and rarely the whole story....no idea why when other networks happily post most of their material.

Not much of a story, really. She talked about how many celebrities are doing voiceovers these days (ugh!), did a one question interview with the 14 year old who is the voice of Dora the Explorer, and mentioned long-time VO guy Chris Phillips. She then went on to play clips of her own voice work, and said:

Didn't mention the part about using a nationally broadcast network television program as a platform to hawk your wares.
Seems she also left out the part about needing a computer, a USB mic and a V-1-2-3 account. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

| I'm glad I didn't bother to watch.

Is this the same reporter? That kind of deliberate abuse of one's privilege as a reporter deserves negative feedback with the network. _________________ Publisher: Voice Actors in the News

Honestly, I thought it was a nice piece. Nancy is a regular corespondent on CBS Sunday Morning. Being that she is also huge in VO, she was a natural to not just do the segment, but followers of her on camera work will get a kick out of the fact they hear her all the time in commercials and promos and probably didn't know it. I say good story and good for her!

It was a good piece. Nancy usually does commentary, rarely a full-length segment. In the window she was given, it appears she quickly covered a couple of examples for the benefit of those viewers who aren't voice talent; probably most of their viewers. Candice Agree (the voice of Sunday Morning) was a natural, as was the closing bit on Charles Osgood, but I don't think Nancy dwelled unnecessarily on her own accomplishments. Again, to the average viewer, I'm sure it was an informative and even entertaining piece.
As for "it's not a bad living, though it takes talent, luck, a thick skin and not much make up," this needed to be stated for the benefit of the VO newbies who've been the victim of Pied Piper smoke-blowing. _________________ Mike
