Hey SO-Cal Pals,

Do you know if any place I can get OC 703 2" insulation without having to buy a whole case?
Viking has the Johns-Manville equivalent, but they only sell it in 9-piece cases.

I need some. You wanna go in on a case from Viking together? What percentage of the case do you need? I'll split it with you!

Thicker is always better.

And Superchunk Basstraps, in an 8-foot high standing corner will eat up a bail each. Just sayin'

I'll call you, Amy. I don't need more than 4 or 5.

Thanks, Michael!

Thicker is indeed better, but I have a fair amount of mass already. It just that it needs mass BEHIND it.

I have two panels on board now and could throw in two more from a panel I'm not using at the moment.

".... I have a fair amount of mass already. It just that it needs mass BEHIND it." I'm not understanding what you're trying to do.

Mass = density This would be drywall, cement.

(In the use of studio tuning) Rigid insulation = absorption (converting the kinetic velocity of sound energy to heat)
So, I'm a little lost

If you are filling between wall studs, you're better off using regular insulation.

I just checked their website and it looks like you can order single sheets, too: http://www.atsacoustics.com/item--Owens-Corning-703--1002.html

They can be an attractive solution if you are not handy, or only need a few panels.

As for corner basstraping, they are not thick enough. In corners one needs a minimum of 6-inches of insulation for basstraps that straddle across the corners, or one needs to build super chuncks.

And for most rooms you'll need a minimum of 4-inch thick panels on the wall, with a 2 to 3-inch air gap.
