Hola! Happy Cinco de Mayo!

I'd like to try to run Skype, but I fear I will not be able to on my vo computer.

I'm actually not able to hear any streaming videos off the web on this computer, with or without pro-tools running. I was told it has to do with ProTools and the resources used.

When I want to download and mp3 and listen to it, or say watch a quicktime movie, i have to make sure pro-tools is completely shut down on the computer.

So, with that knowledge, all you techie people out there, am I doomed and not able to do skype on this computer?

PS: all my usb ports are used up, so I won't be able to plug in a webcam unless I unplug something, like my printer.

Sorry Caryn. Pro Tools takes over ALL audio and video I/O's. So you surmise correctly, to make Skype work, PT must be OFF and further not even started on your computer if you choose to use the program to chat or make calls.

Now that this information is out of the way; you are not toast, yet. You can get another sound card for Skype use.

A USB hub (cheap ones run less than $10.00) will add ports to the computer and allow you to use an outboard card for Skype.

There are some fixes for Skype and PT use at the same time, I am not privy to them however.

Thanks Frank. I do believe you and I have discussed this issue in the past... not specific to Skype, but in general. I just thought I'd double check to make sure!!

Thank you so much Frank!!
