I will be traveling to Italy in June and need a place to stay for two nights in Florence and 1 night in Genoa. Anyone have any recommendations for something moderately priced?

This actually looks like a great idea! I'm looking at one right now.

Thanks D.

I just saw this mentioned in the New York Times Frugal Traveler blog. Go here: http://frugaltraveler.blogs.nytimes.com/ and read item #2 ("Anywhere Can Be Frugal") of the first story.

As Shakespeare would say, "Get thee to a nunnery."

The last time I visited Florence, I was quite lucky to have shared an apartment for almost a month with American folks from the Santa Reparata Art Centre (SRISA) but unfortunately, I don't know anyone over there anymore.

The first time I went, I stayed in a great hostel a few minutes from the train station. It was cheap, clean, all-ages and more adventurous than a hotel...I had a wonderful experience there. Plus, as an added bonus, I was recognized by some NY fans of mine one day in the cafeteria. It was uncanny.
Prices go from 15-30 Euros, so you'll have plenty left over to spend on gelato!

Whatever you choose, enjoy yourself! Like any city, the cars drive crazy, the sidewalks are crowded and there are scams to watch out for, but Florence is no ordinary city and the beauty there will take your breath away!

Hello Connie.

I used Rick Steves Europe Through The Back Door for ideas and suggestions and was not disappointed in Florence accommodations.
