To plug the leak you need something pointless like the board of directors of a medical insurance company. The reaction of the US government to this disaster is to give every American merchant bank $300 billion which it hopes will stimulate a clean up.

What is BP doing? It's an oil company, isn't that enough?

BP could really help its PR by trying to spin this as "Free Oil" for Southeastern customers. "Come on down to Biloxi and bring your beach pails!" Yeah, it's in bad taste, but if you can't laugh you'll cry.
