Quote from "Liev Schreiber Narration" via Facebook:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Liev-Schreiber-Narration/125214290835943

And mind you, this from is an official page:

Quote:
Starting in 1995 with Rebels with a Cause: The Story of the American Football League, Liev Schreiber has since become one of the most sought after voice-over talents in recent memory.

Many argue that he has now surpassed Morgan Freeman as the narrator of choice for all of the entertainment industry.

Liev Schreiber Narration can be found on PBS with shows such as Nature and NOVA. HBO uses him for all of their sports documentaries and the History Channel has chosen him to lead us through our own history on "America: The Story of Us."
So if "many argue" that Mr. Schreiber has "surpassed Morgan Freeman" and become "one of the most sought after VO talents in recent memory," why is it that after three weeks only 8 people "like" this facebook page...and one of them is Liev himself?

(and "EGO" was his name-o)

I'm tempted to hit the "Like" button. I think Schreiber is great.
I'm also looking forward to the new series on Morgan Freeman is narrating on the Science Channel starting tonight (6/9).

I am too, but I don't want to hear Schreiber tell us how great he thinks he is either. Clicking the "like" button for me would mean that I'm saying I support what he says about himself.

What's that old proverb about "let another praise you"?

It's a Social Media thing. Wackopedia ought to define Social Media used in a professional context as the art of boring people witless.

We need 3 options for Social Media sites, like, dislike and don't give a sh*t.

Schreiber is one of the best narrators out there right now...so relaxed and natural. Too bad he feels the need to self-congratulate. Of course it is a bit of a low recognition profession. How many viewers actually wait to the end of a program to catch the narrator's name as it goes speeding by in the credit roll?

Funny how so many people emphasize the importance of branding, but when someone sticks their neck out to do it, they get blasted. Maybe the key is to do it with a little more humility than Liev did.

That being said, back when someone could "become a fan" instead of just "like", I always thought it strange when I would get an email from Facebook that would say "Bob Brown wants you to become a fan of Bob Brown". Most of the time it was VO people.

Come to think about it, it's even stranger now. "Bob Brown suggested you like Bob Brown." Talk about taking self-promotion to a new level.

Just a thought... imo, this sounds like a Facebook profile his agent/PR people could be maintaining and he may very well have no idea it even exists. If I were a successful screen actor who was very in-demand for voicework, I doubt I'd be spending the time and effort to set up a Facebook page trolling for v-o work.

He's only doing what so many of the rest of us are doing, but since we're nobodies, our pals just pile on and "like" our page in our support. Anybody here have a glowing third person description of his or her services and talents on their page? How about testimonials?

Even if the self-published praise is a bit hyperbolic, I think Schreiber is outstanding. He clearly would like to get even more work, and I don't blame him. Who wouldn't? I say we cut him some slack and go 'like' his page, just like we might for someone in our VO-BB midst.

This is a sticky area.. people promoting themselves this way.
I do whatever I think will work to spread my name out there. But I don't like the idea of setting up a fan page. Maybe it's just not my style.
I do very much admire Schreiber's work as an actor and VO. You always know it's him but his voice never intrudes.
I always look for the narrator's credit -- unless I easily recognize the voice.

I've got no problem with this self-promotion...since it's clearly not written by him. All the stuff is detached third person entries.

Now as for contemporary narration styles:

I study Schreiber's reads every time I can. Could care less if he clicked a button.

Also, that only 8 people liked it is irrelevant. Nobody clicks on your facebook stuff unless you're Kara or one of the other cool kids. Smile cool
