greetings braintrust - i'm sure i'm not the first to encounter this problem.
i broke down and bought a new laptop - win7 64 bit 2x core, yadda-yadda
installed aa3
tried to use micport pro & ... nothing. windows is seeing the device - audition is not.
has this happened to anyone else?
is there a fix?
could it be it's because audition is a 32-bit host on a 64-bit os? and i just have to wait for CEntrance to bring that update?
if there is a work-a-round - i really would like to know.
thanks,

On my studio computer I'm still in the Iron Age, using my MicPort Pro with Cool Edit 2K and Windows XP.
On a recent trip I rented a laptop with Windows 7, installed Cool Edit, plugged in the MicPort, and got nothing. Then I realized I had installed the 32-bit MicPort driver when perhaps I should have installed the 64-bit driver. So I uninstalled the 32-bit version, downloaded the 64-bit version from the Centrance website, installed it, went into Cool Edit's Options-Settings-Devices tab and set the MicPort as the "Waveform Record" device and -- Bob's your uncle -- everything worked fine.
If the original Cool Edit functions OK with a 64 bit OS, I imagine an incarnation 3 versions newer ought to do so as well, although stranger things have been known to happen. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Since I reviewed the M in an long ago post there have been many changes ( http://www.vo-bb.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4220&highlight=centrance ).
Todd and I chatted and I was unable to find the fix at the time, but Lee is on to something, and I followed his lead.
The 64 bit driver for M is only one part of the equation. The new Universal Driver (UD) now allows for additional M 's to be used at the same time - i.e.: real multitrack recording with several microphones and several M 's. I like this concept! The new driver for M also has a cute little applet or Windows Control Panel feature which is useful when using ASIO with 48 k (or higher) sample rate recording.
As stated earlier; the above paragraph is Part One of the "fix". Part Two is the AA 3.01 update. Download the update http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4237 here. Install. Then download the update for the CEntrance MicPortPro and install.
Humbly yours,

MicPort Pro has always run smoother for me when the universal driver was not installed. Sometimes, it would take unplugging the cable and plugging it back in for the unit to be recognized but it has always been plug and play for the most part. The driver allows for more sample rate control, but causes an obscene amount of recording and playback glitches for me, mainly in the form of pops, clicks and static. I'm using Win7, 32 bit. _________________ Joe Szymanski

JTVG,
Have you reset your ASIO buffers when using the UD?

Nope, I'll give it a try. Is that something you do in Audition? _________________ Joe Szymanski

I am not on AA 3.x at the moment, but usually you will require an ASIO setup program which will have the parameters. This will be a separate program from some editors and included in others.
In AA you should be able to set the buffers.

I went into AA3 last night and noticed you could set ASIO parameters but wasn't sure what they should be set to with the M universal driver. _________________ Joe Szymanski

Setting the ASIO buffers is a matter of a guess in th beginning. The lower you go the better. However a "fast" setting may cause the clicks, etc.
So start low and move up a bit (after playing for a moment or two - i.e.: recording and listening) to get the correct setting. Some systems will not allow for a really fast setting (around 5 buffers) others wont tolerate a slow setting of 25 buffers.
My system is set at 7 buffers, another system is set at 11.
Good luck.
