i've always been fascinated with sound...especially the human voice.
never realized how basic that was until i saw this video today.
it's a little 8 month old boy, born deaf, who was successfully given "ear implants" that allow him to hear his mother's voice for the first time.
despite the fact that he has been able to see her and feel her touch...watch his little face when the voice registers!

I have a friend who was very hard of hearing but never did anything about it. Finally a doctor persuaded him to get hearing aids. Immediately after getting them we went out for coffee. It was a privilege and a truly awe-some experience to watch his reaction to hearing the small things we so take for granted. _________________ Elaine

What a wonderful video. Thanks for sharing, Rowell!
On a related note, I got a gig last September for a company that produces cochlear implants. I recorded prompts for an online game that they were planning for their web site. The job went off without a hitch, but I saw no sign of the game after months of checking their site. This video prompted me to check again, and what do you know...it's online! The stinger: they re-did everything with a female voice. Ah well. At least the check cleared. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

Rowell, thank you for that link. It was indeed beautiful, and something I doubt I'd have stumbled upon on my own. _________________ Dangerous.

I loved this vid!
There is one on YouTube of a 20-year old hearing for the first time, too— either first time in a long while or first time EVER.
Oh, dear— keep your kleenex handy. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

The look on the little guy's face when he hears his mother and that smile. WOW! Very touching. _________________ "I'm thinking...and it hurts" |
