Hi all, new to the site so certainly used the search feature before asking a dumb question Smile and I hope I'm in the right forum.

Subject says it... I use a standard mic stand with a boom arm on it and because it always seems to get in the way, I want to switch to a "broadcast" boom arm - the kind that attaches to a desk - like I used in broadcast booths years ago.

"Cheap" is my budget, with prices about $125 USD; a couple contenders being OC White and Heil. Any preferences here? All comments appreciated.

Thanks! I've been a happy lurker here.

Dave,

Welcome to the VO-BB. I seem to recall a discussion about boom arms some months ago in which the OC White received some positive comments. I hope that helps.

Does anyone have any experience with the Rode PSA-1? It's just $79 at B&H. I was thinking about picking one up...

I saw that one as well, but from available pictures I couldn't tell if it would accomodate a 'riser' to raise it above equipment or objects placed in front of it. Does anyone know? It's certainly the better cost option.

Thats a really slick looking device. Did notice the plastic, or nylon sleeve on the desk mount - gotta wonder how long that'll last before becoming worn or cracking from stress. It does appear the boom arm can be used with a riser at an additional price however, so meets that criteria, albeit at an extra price.

Thanks for the video link.

Luxo KM1, interior spring mic arm.

I use one each my 416 and my bludgeon of choice, the SP C1.

Thanks for the video link, Mike! That Rode PSA-1 looks great. (But why was the audio so atrocious on that vid! Yikes!)

That looked good - so good order placed for the Luxo, and now it's the wait for the UPS delivery truck Coffee

Been using 3 Luxos for almost 10 years now with zero complaints.

I bought one of these stands from ebay based off a recommendation here a while back on the boards. Worked so good I bought a second and it can handle the weight of a neumann.[/b]

I saw that particular model in my searching, and thought long and hard about it; glad to hear it works! I tend to avoid buying the least expensive of anything for quality purposes... whether its cars, boomerangs, or hamburgers. Smile

All the best.

That Q-mic stand is good and cheap (yes, it is possible), but the built in mic cable is crap. I like the Rode PSA1, too. I've installed both models in many studios.

And I'm surprised to see it doesn't bear a "Made in China" stamp; it's a well made and functional addition to my arsonal of recording tools and I'm pleased with how effortlessly it operates. Geek Oh, country of origin? Italy. Thanks, Bruce, for the tip.
