So I'm using a old TI-101 to patch my clients into my recording sessions. I also use it for VO coaching sessions with my mentors. There are times when I'd like to record the person on the other end, but the phone line is really noisy. I can hear the caller fine, but there's a pretty loud hiss in the background. I have the TI-101's output plugged into the Line In 2 on my Mbox Mini with nothing in between. Any thoughts on how I can quiet things down?
Thanks you,

I have the same issue with a Gentner. My radio engineer friend says that it's normal and usually it's an input issue. I use a cheap comp/expander/limiter to help and just mainly use the expander to cut out the low level noise. It is slightly detectable when the caller speaks, but I am very critical of my audio.
Here is a sample of what I have reduced it to from an annoying amount

I basically played with the input level and output level on my board and compressor unit to get the best I could do. _________________ Does life start at 40? |

How much "hiss" do you hear when just talking on the phone itself?
If the hiss is not there, then you need to look at the gain structure
between the TI-101 and your Mbox. If either device is set near the
extreme of volume, turn down the one and up the other.
The 101s were good, but between various levels of quality from telco
an the phone on the far in, sometimes you don't get the best of quality.
(Isn't that what the "can you hear me now" commercials are really about?)
