This clip never fails to move me and there's probably more to it than I used to play Flugel Horn in a brass band.

And it's a fine film too. Another jewel in Pete Postlethwaite's acting crown. I can highly recommend it.

Married to a tuba player (who worked his way down the clefs from trumpet to tuba), and having been in college band (I play piano but always wanted to be in band, so they put me in the percussion section) I have always found this to be a fascinating film. We've watched it a number of times. Thanks for sharing that. A good way to start a Monday morning of what is going to be a hectic week. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

I didn't have to work my way down quite as many octaves. I went from trombone to tuba -- in the same high school band that Moe's kids are/were in (although considerably earlier). Was taught to play tuba by the band leader, whose hands were deformed and he had stubs for fingers. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

That was lovely. It's an excellent film and Ewan isn't bad to look at either.
I played the piano for ten years, strickly solo work. |

I watched the video tonight. It was great, it really was... but.
I needed a translator... very strong accent for me to compute.
What's the deal with the words... bloody, booger, and suck off? Is it English slang? _________________ "Bailey"

English slang it is but the words corrupted to your ears by the Yorkshire accent. My father came from Leeds in Yorkshire and so had the same accent and a similar turn of phrase.
Tripe! = You're talking nonsense.
Wooden Bugger = Stupid person
Nowt = Nothing
Owt = Something
Brass = Money
Don't talk so soft = If you persist with this nonsense I shall take a very dim view. |
